Defiance and Distractions

Journal Entry: 2026-05-12 Location: Olni Var Mood/Title: Defiance and Distractions

The past few days have been a blur of activity, ranging from the mundane tasks of settling into my new home to the sharper realities of Gorean politics. Today, however, felt distinctly charged. The situation in Olni is complicated; being under the scrutiny of people who seem to lack the honor and backbone of the warriors I was raised around is wearing thin. I spent time with Father and Izzy, and their assessment of the situation—that many of these newer homes are merely shadows of "Old Gor"—rings painfully true. Watching them navigate the disrespect of others with such tempered resolve reminds me why I value my place in their company so much.

Training in the arena and practicing with my bow provided a much-needed distraction. Izzy’s tutelage was, as expected, direct and effective; there is a certain simplicity to the steel that I find far more honest than the political maneuvering I’ve been forced to engage in lately. I have managed to secure a space for my home, and although Father is currently barred, we are operating as a united front. I am learning that in this world, one must be prepared to stand one's ground, even if it means eventually moving on if the environment fails to meet our standards of honor. For now, I am focusing on my responsibilities as a Magistrate and Scribe, keeping my own council, and ensuring that those who earn the privilege of our company know exactly where we stand.

To Do:

  • [ ] Draft the peace accord for Father and Jarek to review, keeping our specific needs in mind.

  • [ ] Continue refining the "Basic Gorean Manners" and "Scribe/Magistrate" curriculum; I want to ensure my students in Olni receive the quality of instruction I intended from the start.

  • [ ] Follow up on the paperwork regarding the appointment book and classroom access—it is vital to have my office and teaching space fully operational.

  • [ ] Rest. The intensity of these recent social and political clashes has been draining, and I need a clear head for the challenges to come.
