Slave Papers, Shared Company, and Class Invitations

Locations: Turmus — my home and swing, Scribe Hall, Library mailbox, and a dining area in the city.

⊰════════════════════════════⊱

Journal Entry

Today brought a pleasant balance of time with Kaellaed and a call for my services as Legal Clerk. During the early afternoon, he noticed that I had found my stairs and added a swing. We spent a little time trying it, and he complimented my gowns. It was good to enjoy his company before the afternoon's work began.

The Scribe Hall bell rang at 2:05 p.m. and again at 2:11 p.m. By 2:14 p.m., I had asked Toby what he needed. He had purchased Luna Valentina Luvmore and brought a bill of sale signed by the Head Slaver. He needed ownership papers prepared for her, so Kaellaed and I went inside with them.

After locating the form, I received the bill of sale and began preparing the papers. Toby completed the slave registration papers and handed them to me. I asked whether Luna had a brand, and he indicated her leg. Kaellaed described it as a dina flower high on her upper left outer thigh, rather than a kef. Luna remained quietly beside her owner while we worked.

The papers were finished, and Toby accepted the parchment with thanks at about 2:35 p.m. He and Luna then departed. Kaellaed spoke kindly of my efficiency and responsiveness. I placed the scroll in the Library mailbox, following the instruction that I was not to file things for the Scribe myself. By 2:42 p.m., I could say that Toby's papers for his slave were done.

Afterward, Kaellaed teased that, having escorted me, he deserved a meal. We settled down to eat, and Leena came to serve us. I ordered the same as he did, and she brought grilled bosk, bread, fried sul, and ale. We thanked her for her service.

Over the meal, Kaellaed spoke about the difference between completing the immediate paperwork and looking ahead to broader needs. He recalled my work as a teacher and magistrate, and we discussed whether I might eventually need another girl to cover the times when Ink is away. I explained that Ink is generally present from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m., after morning blackwine and before the afternoon activities. I agreed that I might need another girl at some point, but wanted Ink to have a few days to enjoy her new position first.

Kaellaed said that, should we be courting, he could help purchase a girl for me, while leaving the selection and negotiation to me. This remained a possibility discussed between us, with no arrangement made.

Leena said she had not realized that slaves could attend my classes. I assured her that my classes are open to both slave and free, and told her that I teach on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. She hoped to attend when her other classes allowed, and I encouraged her to come now and then. She also explained that she speaks Portuguese, understands some Spanish, and uses a translator for English.

When our meal and conversation were finished, I suggested that we release Leena to her other duties. Kaellaed thanked and dismissed her. He then walked me home, and we parted with a hug, hoping to spend more time together later.

Our evening conversation was quiet and friendly. Kaellaed asked about a possible out-of-character matter from the previous night's Tavern Night, but I had heard nothing further. We also talked about Miley and Toby. I told him that I enjoy getting to know him better, and we both said how much we had enjoyed the weekend before wishing one another a good night's rest.

A Day of Teaching, Legal Matters, and Good Company

Times: Morning through 6:48 p.m. SLT.

Journal Entry

My day began quietly with Kael. I had been arranging a few new things in my home, including lights and a mirror, and still needed to decide what to remove. We spoke of Ink, whom I had purchased, and I expected her back on Monday at about 8 a.m. Kael also reminded me that I had offered to look at the girls in the kennels for someone who might suit him. With papers and other work occupying me, that remained on my list.

We went out to enjoy the morning and later greeted Marcus and laela. Marcus explained that the trial had been postponed because of the parties’ availability. He described opposing accusations involving assault and slave-like behavior. Kael gave me Sabrina Blackwood Wolfe’s incident report, and Aries sent me the incident report and encounter log concerning Edward and Nadia.

Carola approached us at the Education Hall about business registration for my seal work. I explained that most of the seals had been gifts and that I had charged for only one. I had understood that Selia and Kelli approved of the work, but had not known registration would be required for selling personal seals. I told Carola that I would no longer make seals for a fee and would register if I later chose to make a business of it. She accepted that no registration was needed under the circumstances, while explaining her expectation regarding further personal seal work. The conversation ended pleasantly, with a little humor from Kael.

Afterward, I helped Kael reduce the furnishings in his flat to bring down the prim count. We removed several things and checked the seating. By the time we finished, the room looked comfortable and cozy. It was then time to head to the Education Hall for my class.

At 10 a.m., I taught “Free and Slave: The Fundamental Gorean Distinction.” Kael and Odette attended. I spoke about freedom and bondage as legal conditions, and the importance of examining evidence rather than deciding someone’s status from clothing, posture, or an accusation alone. Our discussion afterward raised the risks of a Free Woman entering an arrangement for temporary slavery with a promised return to freedom. I was glad to have questions that made us think beyond the prepared lesson.

Odette told us about her upcoming talk, “Why Do Free Women Dance?” at the Outdoor Classroom on October 14, at noon and 4 p.m. SLT. She emphasized that dancing is a choice for Free Women and that no one would be pressured. I said I might try, though I was unsure about dancing before others. Before we parted, I thanked Kael for spending so much of the morning with me.

In the afternoon, I heard the Scribe Hall bell and answered it. Khan wanted counsel on a legal matter, and Sphere also arrived. Khan did not explain the matter before deciding that he would speak with me in my office the following day. I agreed to see him then.

Later, Kael and I discussed the approaching Edward and Nadia trial. He asked about statements from the parties and witnesses, and advised taking time with each point if I needed to speak. I explained that I was a backup at best. He also raised the need to establish precisely where the encounter happened. He had heard that the trial was rescheduled for Tuesday at 8 a.m., but would be unable to attend because of his salt-mine duties.

The evening brought Tavern Night, hosted by Aries with music from Bluesaint. I enjoyed seeing familiar faces and spending time with Kael in the pavilion. Ducky brought me tea with a little milk. When I asked Jessika when the newspaper would come out, she explained that she was waiting for the trial to conclude and hoped to gather fiction from Wednesday’s Story Time.

There was a disturbance outside the gates that drew some of the company away for a time. I remained with the gathering and enjoyed the conversation. Ella teased Kael and me about whether a companionship contract might be coming. Nothing was settled; it was simply pleasant to be getting to know one another again.

Kael escorted me home at the end of the evening. We exchanged hugs, and I discovered that my stairs were missing. That was a problem I decided could wait until tomorrow.

JOURNAL ENTRY

The day began early with greetings to Toby and Adria. Toby told me that he has been trying to attend one of my classes, though other demands have kept him busy. I hope he will be able to join us soon.

Kaellaed visited in the morning, and I was glad to see him. He confirmed that he was settled into his Ambassador’s office. I still had a few matters to sort out in my own work, particularly the filing cabinet, forms, and access to the cells. We also talked about the girls available at the kennels and the importance of finding someone who would fit comfortably into the household. I had collected their notecards to review. We arranged to see each other again at 7 p.m. SLT.

Later, I met Gaius Serenus of Ar, a traveling Scribe waiting for an interview with Kelli. His father had encouraged him to travel and learn before settling. I told him about Turmus and the preparations for our River Festival. His particular interest is the exchange of information between cities and the study of Merchant law. Having served as a Magistrate for many years, I found the subject interesting. He said that the differences he had encountered were smaller than rumors had led him to expect. I wished him well with his interview, and he expressed a hope that we might speak over tea another time.

When Angel joined me, I asked her to let Nicholas know whether she wished to become mine. She responded warmly and said she would like that. We both recognized that we are still getting to know one another, but that we have made a good beginning.

I found Nicholas later that morning and completed the purchase. He prepared and sealed the bill of sale, and when I asked for Angel’s physician examination papers, he retrieved them and attached them. He reminded me that the bill of sale must be taken to a Scribe for the ownership documentation. He also gave me the key to her city collar and asked that both collar and key be returned. I told him I would return them as soon as possible, expecting Monday because of her real-life commitments.

I thanked Nicholas for my new girl and told him that her name would be Ink. It is a name suited to the work she will share with me, and I look forward to having more time together.

The day also included work with incident-report forms and records. I obtained forms, worked with the filing arrangements, and continued preparing the summaries and review notes for two incident reports. Both reports were given to Magistrate Aries. My part was to organize the information and note matters for review; the decisions belong to the Magistrates.

At the Magistrate’s Office, I greeted Aries and Jessika while they were discussing matters for her reporting and the coming trial. Aries acknowledged my note about the paperwork I needed, and I received the sealed slave registration for Angel and myself.

I listened while Aries described the capture and enslavement of a Panther girl, referring Jessika to the private Lupus Lacum slave house for her present status. Jessika also asked about the trial scheduled for the following morning. There was uncertainty between 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. SLT, so she planned to seek confirmation from Kelli or Trent.

The records bookcase continued to refuse me access, even though it had been identified as the place where the files should go. Aries gave me a revised forms package, but the filing permissions still needed attention.

In the afternoon, I enjoyed a break on the Earth side. Altos helped me look at clothing, though the shop we visited was not quite what I wanted. Later, I showed Aries my Victorian Linden home and the screened porch I had added. We then visited his home and Uli’s next door. Their homes were spacious and inviting, with many pleasant places to sit and read.

Uli offered to put a working television at my home. We also talked about clothing shops, decorating, mirrors, and the occasional frustrations of crossing regions. It was good to spend time with friends away from the demands of Turmus. I thanked them for showing me their homes before returning to my shopping.

Later, I joined part of Nicholas’s impromptu lesson at the Slave House. He spoke about Gorean religion, celebrations, ceremonies, myths, and customs. I wished I had heard the beginning, as I found the discussion very interesting. I asked him to let me know when he teaches so that I can help Ink receive the information. He said he would announce classes in Turmus chat when time and a sufficient gathering allowed.

Afterward, I stopped at the Tea Room and greeted Seònai. Tay was not on duty but kindly brought me tea with a little milk. It was just what I wanted, and I enjoyed sitting quietly while the conversation continued. I do like that shop.

Kaellaed came by again at the agreed hour. I told him that Angel was now mine and that Ink was her new name. We also spoke briefly about the incident reports, and I explained again that I prepare the supporting review rather than make the decisions. He was tired, so our visit was short, and we hoped to see each other in the morning. It had been a good day, with work accomplished and a new beginning for Ink and me.

MEETING SUMMARIES

Gaius Serenus — approximately 7:13–7:45 a.m. SLT

Gaius, a traveling Scribe from Ar, was awaiting an interview with Kelli. We discussed Turmus, the coming River Festival, and his interest in comparing Merchant law between cities. He suggested a future conversation over tea.

Purchase of Angel, renamed Ink — City Slave House, approximately 9:48–10:03 a.m. SLT

Nicholas quoted a purchase price of 2 silver and supplied a sealed bill of sale with physician examination papers attached. The payment notification recorded 2 silver and 50 copper transferred; the conversation did not explain the additional 50 copper. The city collar and key are to be returned. Ink’s sealed registration was received from Aries at approximately 1:40 p.m. SLT.

Magistrate’s Office — approximately 1:17–2:10 p.m. SLT

Aries and Jessika discussed the Panther girl’s case, document seals, and the following morning’s trial. The trial time required confirmation. I received Ink’s sealed registration and revised forms. Access to the designated records bookcase remained unresolved.

Earth-side Visit — approximately 2:18–3:31 p.m. SLT

Aries visited my home, followed by a tour of his and Uli’s homes. Uli offered help installing a working television. We discussed decorating and clothing for the Earth side.

Nicholas’s Lesson — late afternoon, ending around 6:05 p.m. SLT

I attended part of the first lesson in Nicholas’s seventeen-class series. Topics included religion, festivals, ceremonies, oaths, legends, and superstition. He said future impromptu classes would be announced in Turmus chat. I requested information for Ink.

Blackwine, Merchant Lessons, and Fellowship in Turmus

Locations: Magistrate’s Office; Tea Room and adjoining square; my home; Educational Hall; Palace Balcony, Turmus.

⊰════════════════════════════⊱

JOURNAL ENTRY

My morning began with a visit to the Magistrate’s Office to check the mailbox, forms, and records. The forms dispenser still would not allow me access. There are practical matters yet to settle before I can make full use of the office in my work as Legal Clerk.

Later, I joined Odette at the Tea Room for blackwine. She brought it just as I like it, and we welcomed Adria to our table. Having met her yesterday, I was pleased to hear more about her hopes for Turmus. She wishes to learn the basics of Scribe work before choosing the field she would like to pursue.

Our quiet conversation took an unexpected turn when a man called Pod approached us. He described himself as a historian from Earth and spoke repeatedly of his submissive nature. His lack of a collar and his manner left his status uncertain. Adria discussed his choices with him and explained that a Slaver needed to hear his wish to submit to the city. When she offered to lead him away, I suggested the City Kennel. Afterward, I let out a sigh and decided that a second cup of blackwine was in order.

Later in the morning, Angel accompanied me to the Magistrate’s Office. I collected an incident report bearing Sabrina’s account name, siliacortez, and asked the High Magistrate about access to the forms. The dispenser continued to refuse me, and I also encountered a notecard I could not view. With no resolution and the High Magistrate apparently not returning, I decided not to wait any longer. I was hungry, so Angel and I went home.

Before the noon class, I rearranged chairs to provide more seating. Orion arrived early, and others joined us as the hour approached. I welcomed everyone to the Educational Hall, including Nadia, whom I had not previously met.

The lesson brought a useful reminder to check my materials more carefully. The heading named “Merchant Castes, Houses, and Trade Associations,” while the opening announced “Guilds and Monopolies: Organized Trade and Control of the Market.” Orion noticed the difference. I acknowledged that I had written and filed the lesson some months ago and had not reread it before class. We continued with the combined subject.

We discussed the differences among castes, subcastes, Merchant houses, and trade associations, and how organized trades can protect knowledge, training, standards, and reputation. We also considered how those same organizations may restrict competition or gain control of a market. Orion asked several thoughtful questions, and Nadia joined in answering. I appreciated the exchange. Teaching gives me opportunities to learn from others as well as to share what I know.

After class, Ella helped me find the Palace Balcony for tea with Ubara Selia. It was pleasant to sit among the women of Turmus, hear introductions, and enjoy the view. I introduced myself as Legal Clerk and teacher, mentioning my many years of previous service as a Magistrate.

Much of the conversation turned toward the coming River Festival. Telima, our new Inn Keeper, Sabrina, our Baker, and Odette discussed ways their businesses might work together. Ella offered the possibility of hosting one of my classes. There were many ideas, though arrangements remained to be worked out.

The conversation also touched on veils, braids, caste colors, and the difference between law and custom. Ella suggested that the Magistrates provide clearer notices about what Free Women must and need not wear in Turmus. Selia reminded us that a decision concerning a citizen would belong to the Magistrate. I listened with interest, as such questions can easily become matters requiring careful clarification.

Melita brought me tea with a little milk. I thanked her, and later thanked Selia before leaving. The gathering provided a welcome opportunity for conversation and fellowship outside our usual work.

At the afternoon Dance Circle meeting, I met Lady Korlyn, who had learned of the gathering through a notice in Port Olni. Odette thought it might have been the poster I had placed there. It was encouraging to hear that the notice had brought someone to visit.

Anja suggested short demonstrations to show others what Free Woman dance can offer. Odette discussed giving her “Why Do FW Dance?” talk, preparing materials for distribution, and reaching other cities. The women considered the difficulties caused by different veil requirements and restrictions on access. There was interest in finding welcoming places where more women could participate. I had to leave for real-life matters before joining the dancing upstairs.

⊰════════════════════════════⊱

MEETING SUMMARIES

Merchant Class — Educational Hall, noon–approximately 1:02 p.m. SLT

The combined lesson covered Merchant castes, houses, trade associations, guilds, and monopolies. Discussion addressed training, standards, market control, political influence, and the need to establish local authority before taking action. Orion raised questions about the lesson title, market share, secrecy, and keeping examples grounded in context. I clarified that afternoon classes repeat the morning lesson and that Thursday lessons are currently Merchant-related.

Tea with the Ubara — Palace Balcony, approximately 1:05–2:19 p.m. SLT

Selia hosted a social gathering of Free Women. Topics included River Festival preparations, cooperation among hospitality businesses, possible class hosting, dress expectations, and caste identification. Ella proposed clearer Magistrate notices on women’s attire. Selia planned another tea gathering the following month and said she would speak with Sabrina about a monthly pastry contract.

Free Woman’s Dance Circle — Tea Room, approximately 4:08–4:44 p.m. SLT attended

Anja proposed short dance demonstrations and outreach to receptive cities. Odette planned a talk in Turmus and a packet containing a poster and information with full permissions for distribution. Anja agreed to approach Gorean Campus about a speaking engagement. Different city requirements and access restrictions remained considerations.

Fellowship Among Scribes and a Busy Day in Turmus

Locations: Tea Room and Turmus Square; my home; Magistrate Office; Scribe Hall and library mailbox; Slave House area; Trygg's office at Two Scimitars Oasis; Maitreya, On A Lark, and Kitty Creations.

Times: Early morning through evening, SLT.

⊰════════════════════════════⊱

My morning began in the Tea Room, where Odette welcomed me with warm chocolate-filled bread and my usual black wine. She asked about yesterday's classes. I told her that the first had gone well, but I had missed the second because the Scribe meeting continued into the class hour. The meeting had taken nearly two hours, including the time spent gathering. With weekly meetings now planned, I may need to offer only one Tuesday class if the overlap continues. Odette and I agreed that starting on time helps people learn to arrive on time.

Laela stopped by before leaving for work. She spoke warmly of her Master, but also shared that she needed some time away from roleplay to process difficult matters. I wished her well. Odette and I talked about the Dance Circle meetings, and I realized I had missed some. She also mentioned a small real-life stove fire, which naturally concerned me.

Cherry, Rhayne, and briefly Viktoria joined the morning gathering. Cherry asked whom she could approach among the Warriors and Scribes when she needed to make a report. I named Augustus Bade as our Head Warrior. She had already managed to speak with Kelli, but suggested that Warriors and Scribes should have identifying markers so people know whom to seek. She intended to raise that suggestion with him.

After the others left, I asked Odette for more black wine and her company. I teased that she knows my order better than people who have known me for years. She explained that remembering a guest's preferences is part of her profession, and I told her she does it well.

Later, I spent time with Kaellaed and Angel. Angel thanked me for her hammock and said it was comfortable. Kaellaed complimented her, and I was pleased to have this time together before we left for the Scribe Caste of Gor meeting.

Angel accompanied me to Trygg's office at Two Scimitars Oasis. The meeting reviewed the Third Scribe Summit, a proposed monthly meeting schedule, and the group's mission statement. I had not attended the summit myself, but my presentations had been supplied for use in my absence. Trygg spoke kindly of them, and Saku said he had done well presenting in my stead. I was sorry I could not have delivered them myself, but glad the work had been useful.

The group supported meeting on the first Wednesday of each month, with morning and evening sessions. Rather than requiring a formal lecture each time, volunteers would lead discussions about Scribe work in different cities. We also reviewed the mission statement. At Saku's suggestion, Trygg added explicit references to mentorship and advice on preserving records. I supported the revised wording.

Near the end, Saku announced that she would step down as Assistant Head of Scribes at Thunder Mountain, effective Tuesday, and explained out of character that she would be leaving Firestorm. Trygg thanked her and made clear that she would be welcome back.

After returning, Angel and I worked on her appearance and went shopping. I helped her check the fit of her clothing and the match between her face and body, while letting her know that she could make further adjustments to her liking. We visited On A Lark and Kitty Creations, looking at belts, outfits, and a camisk for house chores. I explained that the blue pants outfit would be her usual uniform, with other clothing for special occasions or work that might soil it. It was a cheerful outing; afterward, I told Odette it had felt rather like children browsing a shop full of sweet treats.

Around midday, I greeted people near the Slave House. Lilly was gathering information for the newspaper, while Orion asked about taking Kael fishing. Nicholas explained that a Turmus city slave could serve a Turmus Free for a day or night without a rental, and allowed the boy to accompany him.

When the legal bell rang, I answered Lothar's request for help finishing Dina's registration. He provided her medical examination and private slave registration papers. I checked them, asked to see the girl briefly, and added my seal. I returned a dated copy and explained that the remaining filing section belonged to the Record Keepers.

I guided Lothar to the library mailbox, where he deposited the papers. I reassured him that the signatures and seals supported his ownership claim while the city's recording work remained to be completed. I advised him to ask Aneesh Teardrop or Sphere Proto if he had not heard back in about a week. Dina also needed Turmus group tags, which I could not issue. I suggested Selia, or possibly Nicholas. Later, Lothar confirmed that she had received her tags, and I marked that part completed.

In the afternoon, I returned to the Tea Room. Tay prepared milk tea with a little honey for a change, and Odette and I talked about shopping, the growing number of merchants, and improvements to the inn. Lady Telima joined us while looking for a new home. She said she was now of the Merchant Caste and had previously been an innkeeper. Real-life matters called me away before that conversation went further.

Later, Kaellaed asked about the Scribe Caste of Gor meeting. I explained the summit review, the monthly schedule, and the mission statement. He also asked whether the group had an opinion on AI-written material or forms; no group position on that subject was established in the morning meeting. Trygg sent me the evening meeting transcript, giving me another record to review.

The day brought together the quieter pleasures of company and the practical work of a Scribe. I enjoyed my time with Angel and Odette, and was glad to help Lothar move his paperwork forward.

Remaining: The Record Keepers must complete the city's filing section. I advised Lothar to follow up with Aneesh Teardrop or Sphere Proto if no response arrived in about a week. Any disputed ownership claim or matter requiring a decision should be referred to Kelli, Aries, or Marcus.

To Dos / Follow-up

  • Review the October 8 lesson, “Merchant Castes, Houses, and Trade Associations”; this was planned, but completion is not recorded.
  • Review the Tuesday class schedule with Kelli so the weekly Scribe meeting does not continue to overlap the 4 p.m. lesson. Offering only one Tuesday class remains a possibility, not a confirmed change.
  • Keep track of Dina's registration filing. If necessary, follow up with Aneesh or Sphere around October 14. Her group tags are already confirmed complete.
  • Review Trygg's evening meeting transcript.
  • Consider advertising Turmus classes through Scribe Caste of Gor* and offering a future discussion topic.
  • Check the Dance Circle notices and meeting times.
  • If Kaellaed still wants an answer about AI-written material or forms, seek clarification from Trygg; no group policy was stated in the morning meeting.

A Renewed Hall, a Return to Teaching, and Service to Turmus

Locations: Educational Hall, bakery, Tea House, Magistrate Office, and upstairs Scribe meeting room in Turmus.

Times: Early morning through late afternoon, SLT.

⊰════════════════════════════⊱

I began the day by giving the Educational Hall a new look. I worked on the furnishings and seating, hoping to make the room more comfortable and welcoming for those who come to learn. There is satisfaction in preparing a place where scrolls may be studied and questions asked.

Laela stopped by early in the morning. I told her that I was adjusting my lesson to reflect my work as Legal Clerk and updating material I had written months ago. She wished me well with the class. It would be good to teach again, and I hoped people would come.

Later, Carola and I went looking for breakfast pastries, as Odette had not set out fresh ones. A cheese and nutmeg pastry caught my attention. Carola offered to make tea or black wine so that we could take our pastries back to the Tea House. While we were near the bakery, Lothar passed with Alva, whom he struck and pulled away after she stopped to greet us. It was an unpleasant interruption to the morning.

I also spoke of a beautiful classroom that Cassian had told me I could use. Later, Kaellaed visited the Educational Hall and complimented the new design. I explained that I had nodded off after a short night and had not meant to leave him unanswered.

Before the noon class, I welcomed Carola, Kaellaed, Orion, and Storm. Carola mentioned that the inn was being renovated to include an office, and we spoke of the city's need for an innkeeper. I invited everyone to help themselves to a beverage and asked about the new cushions, hoping they were more comfortable than the old seating.

At noon, I taught “Tribute, Taxes, and the Wealth of Cities.” We discussed the authority behind public charges, receipts, custody of treasury holdings, authorized spending, emergency repairs, and the preservation of accurate records. Orion, Carola, and Storm contributed answers and questions throughout the lesson. Their participation made the subject a conversation rather than simply a reading of my notes.

When we discussed urgent repairs, I suggested bringing the need to the Ubara and following whatever emergency authority Turmus recognizes. Storm raised the possibility of a caste fund, something I had not considered. I enjoy teaching because I learn as well. The class concluded shortly after the hour, and the students offered kind thanks.

In the afternoon, I attended the Scribe Caste meeting. Before it began, the Magistrate Office bell rang, and I volunteered to answer it. Lothar requested an ownership signature for a slave named Dina. I returned quietly to the meeting afterward; the record does not show that his paperwork was completed.

Kelli welcomed the new Scribes and spoke about the importance of correct paperwork as Turmus grows. The meeting addressed the census, residence and Home Stone questions, seals, and our purpose as Scribes. When we discussed that purpose, I added that we are here to serve the citizens. Kelli agreed, reminding us that the citizens themselves are the city.

Jessika announced her plans for a Turmus newspaper and asked for news, sources, and contributions. Kelli also announced my appointment as Legal Clerk and explained that I could help with the correct and timely filing of legal scrolls. Aries offered kind words about the appointment.

I quietly offered to make seals for the Scribes, as I had done for the legal officials. After the meeting, I again asked Kelli whether he had given me access to the files and added me to the Legal Team. He also sent me the incident report filed by Cherry Audax that day. These are matters to carry forward in my work.

Class Summary — Tribute, Taxes, and the Wealth of Cities

Location: Educational Hall
Time: Noon–approximately 1:04 p.m. SLT
Participants recorded: Carola Aromata, Orion Pastorelli, Storm, and Kaellaed Rhode; Niki Sjostrom arrived during the opening portion.

The lesson distinguished public levies from ordinary prices and emphasized the authority required to impose, collect, hold, and spend city resources. Discussion covered receipts, treasury custody, reconciliation, competing civic needs, warning signs in financial records, and the effects of charges on trade.

Carola emphasized receipts as evidence of payment and identified important receipt details. Orion asked about emergency procedures and which caste maintains treasury records. Storm contributed to the discussion of spending authority and emergency funding.

I explained that original records should be preserved during an inquiry and that discrepancies justify investigation without establishing who is guilty. The students thanked me afterward.

Meeting Summary — Scribe Caste of Turmus

Location: Upstairs Scribe meeting room
Time: Approximately 3:15–4:56 p.m. SLT
Led by: Kelli, with Aries and Ubara Selia present.

  • Caste duties: Kelli welcomed the new Scribes and asked members to assist with ordinary Scribe work and assignments from him or Aries while awaiting individual meetings.
  • City security: Kelli stated that Turmus was not at war with Selnar, while visitors remained subject to its laws. Selia confirmed this and warned that northern declarations of war against southern cities required vigilance.
  • Merchant matters: Kelli confirmed that he would handle Merchant Magistrate duties when needed during Ramius's absence.
  • Census: Scribes should review the census form and have new citizenship applicants complete it alongside their application. Completed forms may go into the scribal mailbox in front of the library or be handed to Sphere.
  • Residence and Home Stone: A person may reside in Turmus while retaining another Home Stone. Aries explained that applications to swear Turmus's Home Stone may be made, with ceremonies usually following city meetings. Kelli clarified that the household-name field refers to the household rather than a rented building. Selia offered help with house rentals.
  • Document authentication: Kelli instructed that signatures require seals under Turmus policy. If no known seal is available, a Scribe should record that fact beneath the signature and sign and seal the statement. He confirmed that recognizable generic caste seals are acceptable. Selia described stopping an ownership claim supported by an unsealed bill of sale.
  • Scribe seals: Kelli told Lilly he could provide a seal after she had been in Turmus for two weeks. I offered to prepare seals for the Scribes.
  • Purpose of the caste: Members discussed preserving knowledge and records, maintaining trust, and providing guidance and stability. I added service to citizens, which Kelli affirmed.
  • Newspaper: Jessika announced a Turmus newspaper and requested news, sources, stories, advertisements, and other contributions.
  • Legal Clerk: Kelli announced my appointment and my assistance with filing legal scrolls. Aries expressed his support.
  • Future meetings: Kelli said meetings would be held weekly and encouraged members to bring questions and ideas.

⊰════════════════════════════⊱

To Dos / Follow-up

  • Follow up with Kelli about access to the files and membership in the Legal Team; confirmation is not recorded.
  • Review Cherry Audax's October 6 incident report received from Kelli, note any missing information, and refer questions requiring a decision to Kelli, Aries, or Marcus.
  • Follow up on Lothar's request for an ownership signature concerning Dina; completion is not recorded.
  • Review the census form received from Kelli and use the stated submission procedure when assisting citizenship applicants.
  • Apply Kelli's seal instructions when preparing or reviewing documents.
  • Follow up with Kelli on my offer to prepare Scribe seals.
  • Consider news or educational contributions for Jessika's newspaper.
  • Review the class pacing, as the noon session concluded a few minutes after the scheduled hour.

Seasonings, New Neighbors, and a Sleepy Tavern Night

Location(s)

Turmus, Nile River — morning gathering with Carola Aromata Titus (charlottefrees), Kaellaed Rhode, and Elena (elaine.jewell); the seating area outside the tavern during Tavern Night.

⊰════════════════════════════⊱

This morning I joined Kaellaed Rhode, Carola Aromata Titus (charlottefrees), and Elena (elaine.jewell). Elena remembered my guiding her through the darkness to the inn and thanked me. It was a pleasure to see her again in the daylight. She seemed glad to have company after her lonely travels, though she soon excused herself to return to the inn and rest.

Carola offered to help me choose seasonings for our meals. I was not sure what my girl would be cooking, so I said I would leave the choice to her. Kaellaed had rather more definite ideas about verr ribs, loin, and suls, and the conversation became quite a discussion of herbs, garlic, onions, and cooking over a fire. I admitted that I hoped my girl could cook, as I do not care to do it myself. Kaellaed said he could cook, which brought a little amusement from Carola.

Elena asked whether she ought to be wearing a veil. Kaellaed reassured her about her clothing, and Carola explained her understanding of the city's expectations for free women: veiling was recommended for women of the High Castes, with proper covering and hair worn up and off the neck expected. The conversation also turned to the new people arriving in Turmus. Carola mentioned a hairdresser and another artist, and Kaellaed reminded me that a growing city could mean more students.

Carola asked whether I knew of an outdoor place for education that Cassian Leoric (corinthofgor) had built. I did not give her an answer during our conversation, so that is something I need to look into.

We spoke a little about companionship as well. Carola said she was happy as she was, though she would welcome the consideration of a wealthy merchant. I thought it a sensible way to look at things: good either way. Kaellaed joked about being accustomed to his own habits. Carola then left to prepare for an afternoon meeting.

In the evening I joined the gathering outside the tavern for Tavern Night, hosted by Aries Marchese (d3athmak3r3), with Jay Sparrowtree providing the music. I greeted Selia (violet325), Ubara, and Carola. TobyDarrow arrived with his girls, and Kaellaed was there as well. The dancing and conversation kept the tavern busy while the women sat outside.

The Ubara told us she had ordered the old tables removed to make the seating more comfortable. Carola was pleased with the cushion on her seat. Nearby, Ella De Wren Bade (elladewren) and Nadia (nadiastorm) talked about shopping and Nadia's beauty salon and spa. It was another reminder of the businesses and people making their places in Turmus.

By then I was very tired. I said it had been a long day and that I ought to get some sleep. My head began to nod, and I actually drifted off sitting there. After waking with a jerk, I joked that I had better go to bed before the table left an imprint on my forehead. I wished the Ubara and the ladies good night and took my leave.

A Home Made Cozy, Lessons on Klima, and Affairs of Turmus

I began the morning speaking with Odette Atheria. She offered my usual black wine, though the price of fifty copper still surprised me. We talked about the difference in prices, and she told me that Lady Ella owned the High Tide, the Low Tide, Herlit’s Scrolls, and the vegetable cart. I had not realized she had so many businesses.

Later, I met Kaellaed Rhode at his home to help arrange the furnishings we had discussed. Brianna Malone (ayiranayo) joined us. We worked through the pieces one at a time, placing rugs, furniture, and a statue. Some things needed changing once we saw them in the rooms. The couch took up too much space, and the chair I had first chosen was part of a larger set, so we found another. The first statue was not as white as I had hoped, and we replaced it with a white marble figure.

By the time we finished, the rooms looked comfortable and balanced. Kaellaed described his home as cozy and “scriberly,” which pleased me. When he thanked us, I told him that he had a home now. It was satisfying to see everything come together.

Afterward, I spoke with Aries Marchese (d3athmak3r3), AHOC and Magistrate, and Dexter Winters (sytheking1) near the Slave House. They told me about the dispute involving the slave boy Tyrus Kael (marklewis24). Lady Zaina of the Oasis of Nine Wells had claimed him, but the papers she presented were being questioned. Aries explained that the proof of purchase was unsealed and that no registration had been provided.

I looked over the scroll and noticed a concern with its date, as I had already seen the boy in Turmus that morning. I pointed this out. Dexter explained that Selia (violet325), Ubara, had ordered a five-day hold. Cassian Leoric (corinthofgor), Slaver, took the boy to seek a physician’s examination. This was a matter for the Magistrates to resolve, and it offered Dexter, who was studying to become an Advocate, a practical lesson in the importance of proper documents and seals.

Jena Karliath (imthechosenone81) came to ask for a private conversation with a Magistrate. Aries accompanied her into her shop. While he was occupied, July Foxglove asked where her Master was, and I told her to wait outside. When Aries returned, he indicated that the matter involved poisoning and gave July a note to deliver to the Commander.

At noon, I taught the lesson on the Salt Mines of Klima at the Educational Hall. Carola Aromata Titus (charlottefrees) and Orion Pastorelli attended. We followed the salt trade from the pits through storage, carrying, tallying, and caravans to the market, discussing the labor and guarded water behind that trade.

Carola contributed information about the red salt of Kasra and rare yellow salt. She said the lesson would help her when selling salt in her shop, and Orion thanked me for the class. I also gave Carola the lesson titles so she could identify those she had missed. She offered to show me the paga tavern, but I had other things to attend to and left that visit for another time.

Brianna was the only person present for the afternoon class. I gave the lesson for her, and afterward she said she had learned new things about the salt mines. Even with only one student, it was good to hear that the lesson had been useful.

Later, Brianna and I spoke about whether she wished to remain in Turmus. She did not want to stay, and I decided it would be best to end the rental early. I returned her to House Lupus Lacum and spoke with Aиgєl Wօʟʄɛ (keisha.bachman). I explained that Brianna’s behavior had been fine; she was simply unhappy here. I was not angry with her, though I was disappointed that the arrangement had not worked out.

Near the city Slave House, I joined Aries, Bluesaint (bluesaint), and later Cassian while the girls swept the gathering square. There were enough brooms moving to make quite a scene, with teasing and dust rising around us. I reminded them that sweeping the same spot repeatedly would not clean the whole area. Before long, the corner looked much better.

I told Aries about returning Brianna and said that the other girl seemed eager. I was considering naming her Ink when she was fully mine. Aries caught the little joke at once—Ink could fetch my ink—and that brought a smile to my face.

After wishing Aries a good rest, I returned home. Kaellaed came by later, and we spoke briefly about my hope of having a girl to help me. It had been a full day of teaching, helping, and watching the affairs of Turmus unfold.

⊰════════════════════════════⊱

To-Do List

  • Visit Carola Aromata Titus (charlottefrees) to see her salts and tour the paga tavern.
  • Follow up with Aиgєl Wօʟʄɛ (keisha.bachman) about finding another suitable girl.
  • Decide whether to name the remaining girl Ink once she is fully yours.

A Fresh Start, a New Seal, and Two Girls at Home

Location: Turmus, Nile River.

It has been a busy day, following another busy day yesterday. I spent a great deal of the morning working on the seals. The new city seal announcement was out, and both Selia and Kelli liked it. It is something I enjoy doing, and perhaps it will bring a few more coins into my purse.

Kaellaed Rhode stopped by in the morning with good news. He had spoken with the city leadership and said he had been forgiven. He hoped to return to the Scribes and resume his work as Ambassador once Kelli added him back to the appropriate groups.

We talked about my place in the Magistrate Office. As Legal Clerk, I thought sitting near the entrance made sense. People would be able to find me, and I would be close to the magistrates I am there to assist. My teaching days remain Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays, so part of my time will still be spent in the Educational Hall. Of course, I intend to keep enjoying my morning coffee at home or in the Tea Room.

Kael also asked for help furnishing his home. He likes green and blue and wanted a comfortable living area, a desk, and a bedroom. He already has a copper bath. I said I would look through Marketplace and put together some ideas before he spent anything. Once he buys the pieces, we can arrange them together.

I had to step away for a real-life appointment. There was a mix-up with one of my appointments that upset me for a little while, but most of the day was a good one.

⊰════════════════════════════⊱

Later, I met with Cassian Leoric (corinthofgor), Ubar Bactu (conner14144), and Ubara Selia (violet325). A guard known as A was also present.

Cassian had requested the meeting because he wanted to clear the air between us after the earlier disagreement about my hair. He said he hoped we could begin with a clean slate. We are both teachers in Turmus, and he wanted us to be able to work together without my feeling that I needed to leave whenever he was nearby.

I was glad to have the opportunity to speak with him. I explained that he had come a little close and I had become frightened. When I told Kael what happened, I thought I was speaking to someone who would listen. I had not expected everything that followed. Father and Izzy had also taken the matter much further than seemed reasonable to me.

I apologized for how things had developed and told Cassian that I held no ill will toward him. I would actually like to get to know him better now that we live in the same city. He said he held no ill feelings toward the men involved, either.

It was a relief to have that conversation. Bactu also confirmed that Kael had apologized to him and Selia. It seemed that several things were finally settling down.

⊰════════════════════════════⊱

Afterward, Cassian showed me the outdoor classroom he had built above the Wolfe Slave House. It is a pretty, relaxed space with cushions and a lectern. I could imagine it being useful for classes, companionship ceremonies, and other gatherings.

He explained that it is available to all teachers and asked that dates and times be coordinated with Selia to avoid overlapping events. I told him that my Educational Hall is also available for others to use when I am not teaching. I would like those activities placed on the calendar on the wall as well.

We talked about my classes the day before. No one attended the first session, and two people arrived very late for the second, so I gave them a notecard. It was disappointing, but I am hopeful that attendance will improve now that I am recovering and have a computer that runs this world properly again.

My classes are prepared through August 2027, with breaks after every ten weeks and time off for holidays. I told Cassian that I plan to be here for a while. I have already been in Turmus for three months.

Brianna Malone (ayiranayo) joined us before we parted. I explained that she had belonged to me before and was now with me on a rental arrangement.

⊰════════════════════════════⊱

I took Brianna to the Magistrate Office so she would know where to find me. We discussed some ways she might help, including locating people for me.

I would like a few things near my place there so it looks more like my working space. A mailbox with my name and title would be useful, along with the price list I am preparing. Perhaps a small desk would work. There are already desks for three magistrates and two advocates, so I need to see what will fit.

We greeted Jean (Jean1), Lady Odette Atheria, and others along the way. It is nice seeing so many people about the city.

⊰════════════════════════════⊱

In the afternoon, I took a welcome break in Odette’s Tea Room. Tayir (cecilia.ushimawa) brought me warm tea with a little milk, and I was glad to sit down and relax.

Odette asked what was new, and I told her that I had resumed teaching and was now the Legal Clerk. She said that when I teach, I seem to have an inner aura that is smiling and sunny. That was such a lovely thing to hear.

Orion of Tor (Orion Pastorelli) arrived with his information for a city seal. He handed me his scroll, and I worked on the seal while he enjoyed tea and a pastry.

I delivered it to him there in the Tea Room. He admired it and complimented my work. I told him it is a fun hobby. He also hoped to attend my class the following day about Klima and the salt trade of the Tahari. I do hope he comes.

Later, Bluesaint (bluesaint) thanked me again for the work I had done for him yesterday. It was nice to know that my help was appreciated.

⊰════════════════════════════⊱

In the early evening, I met with Nicholas Eel about renting Angel Ely with the intention of buying her if things work out.

Nick explained the rental conditions. There is to be no permanent damage, branding, or cutting her hair during the rental. I may dress her and have her stay at my home, but she is still to serve the community when she is not serving me.

The rental is for ten real days and costs ten copper. He also explained that we need to spend time together during that period and that the trial could need to begin again if we do not have enough time together.

I agreed, paid the ten copper, and received the sealed rental agreement. Then I brought Angel home and introduced her to Brianna.

After looking for a girl for months, I now have both of them with me within two days. Brianna was mine back in May, and I had not expected to see her again. Having her return is a surprise I am still getting used to.

For now, Brianna will be first girl because she already knows me and has been mine before. Angel was comfortable with that arrangement. Between the house, the Educational Hall, and the Magistrate Office, I think there will be plenty to keep them both busy.

I only have one bed set out, so I need to find another. Angel also needs her examination. I told her to have that done while she is still rented so the Slave House can handle the expense.

I am considering new names connected to my work once I own them. Brianna has a seven-day rental and Angel has ten days. I was too tired to make any final decisions about names tonight. That can wait until I am rested.

Brianna showed Angel through the house for me, including the dining room, kitchen, sitting room, and bedroom.

⊰════════════════════════════⊱

Kael returned later and was finally able to see the pictures of the decorating ideas for his home. He liked them, which pleased me.

I explained that he should buy the pieces himself, and then we can arrange them as shown in the pictures. Buying one item at a time should make it manageable. He would like my help putting everything in place, so we will find a day when we both have time.

By the end of the evening, I was very tired. It had been a nice day, with a difficult matter settled, work completed, and two girls at home. I changed for tomorrow and finally went to bed before I fell asleep sitting there.

Morning Blackwine, a Familiar Girl, and a Return to Teaching

Locations: Turmus, Nile River — Odette’s Tea Room, the Educational Hall, the bakery, the city jail, House of Lupus Lacum, and my home.

I began my morning at Odette’s Tea Room, where she was already deep in conversation with Lady Gajane about a possible working arrangement. I asked for my morning blackwine and settled in to listen. Odette prepared it with verr milk and a little sugar, and I teased her softly about what it might say about her tea if she needed a healer working in the Tea Room.

Gajane’s name sounded familiar. I remembered meeting her in Selnar when we were caught in a dreadful rain, and she remembered the weather as well. It was pleasant to recognize someone, though the conversation around us was less comfortable.

The two women were trying to agree on wages, hours, clothing, and the terms under which Gajane would serve. Gajane explained that she needed the copper and worried about the limits of the arrangement. Odette offered two copper per ahn, tips, a uniform and sandals, drinks, and a limited number of pastries. Gajane proposed a higher rate and questioned how obedience and a collar would affect her freedom during the working period.

I listened, but admitted that I did not understand all the back and forth. Gajane eventually agreed that Odette could seek Blue Caste approval and have a contract drawn up. Before leaving for her ship, she thanked Odette for the opportunity, although she still seemed uneasy. The terms needed to be clearly written rather than left to different understandings.

⊰════════════════════════════⊱

Kael joined us, and I asked how his move back to Turmus was going. He said Lady Selia had welcomed him back to the Home Stone and caste. I was glad to hear it. He was settling into a house and already expected my help with decorating.

Draven greeted us briefly before moving on. Later, Ragnar Bloodaxe arrived and introduced himself as a Slaver of Turmus. When I mentioned that I had lived here for three months, he spoke as though I were quite new to Gor. Kael promptly explained that my experience and teaching reached much farther back than my time in this city.

I told Ragnar that I was still looking for a well-trained girl for my house. I wanted someone with a good head on her shoulders, someone who could think and attend to her work without needing me to tell her every next step. I do not have time to spend the day chasing after someone and checking whether she is still on task.

Kael emphasized loyalty and attentiveness. Ragnar suggested looking at the girls available for lease and also mentioned a thrall, though the request remained for a girl. When he asked whether my school needed a whip or a lock, I was puzzled. My school is open to all, and I could see no reason it would need either.

⊰════════════════════════════⊱

Later in the morning, ThunderBolt apologized for missing my classes. I explained that I had been recovering from minor surgery and had not been able to teach. Classes would begin again on Tuesday, and the notices were posted on the wall in the Educational Hall.

He said he enjoyed my classes and hoped to attend. I told him that the lessons displayed were only a small part of what I had planned, with more classes extending into next year. It felt good to speak about teaching again and to know that someone was looking forward to returning.

We also laughed about coffee, late nights, and the difficulties of being on opposite sides of the world. It was already very late where he lived, but he was waiting for his cat to return before going to bed. We agreed that cats generally believe they own us rather than the other way around.

I spent part of the day attending to practical details, including the coinbag for the Hall. Later, I settled at the bakery with my scrolls while conversations carried on nearby.

⊰════════════════════════════⊱

I placed my written rental request for Leena and Angel in the mailbox. I also withdrew ten silver and sixty-three copper from the bank.

When I encountered Toby Darrow, I asked whether he was one of the new slavers. He explained that he had served in Turmus before and had recently returned. I handed him a copy of the scroll I had left in the mailbox, but Second Life was giving him trouble. He needed to relog and said he would follow up with me.

Nearby, several girls were gathered around the jailed panther, Sabrina. The exchange had become a stream of taunts and insults. I told the girls to stop hanging about, return to their work, and leave the captive alone. When Amalia remained close to the cage while polishing, I directed her to another spot.

Aries arrived to see the prisoner. I explained that I had just sent the girls away because they had been picking on her. He invited me to join him while he looked into her situation.

In the conversation that followed, Sabrina openly described taking food, medicine, and jewelry from the city. Aries identified himself as a magistrate and said her admissions made the matter straightforward. I observed that she certainly was not denying it. The gathering grew as Blue, Aysha, Ragnar, Ubara Selia, and others appeared. I was present for parts of the discussion, but the decisions concerning the captive belonged to Aries and the city’s authorities.

⊰════════════════════════════⊱

In the afternoon, I spoke briefly with Lilith Koskinen-Ryu. I asked whether she was one of the new scribes here, and she explained that she was the Head of the Scribes in Teletus and was visiting rather than moving to Turmus. I wished her well wherever she chose to make her home.

A bell was ringing, so I excused myself and checked whether assistance was still needed. Blue told me someone had already answered his request.

Angel Wolfe was nearby, and I brought her into the Educational Hall. I told her that I hoped to rent her for a week so that I could get to know her. That led to an unexpected clarification: she belonged to Jake Wolfe at the private House of Lupus Lacum, rather than the city kennels. There appeared to be another girl named Angel on the kennel board.

I had mistaken one Angel for another.

She told me where her owner’s house was and offered to show me. I followed her there, grateful to finally know the location of the new slave house.

At the entrance, Aries was delivering the panther whom he said had been enslaved for theft and was to be branded accordingly. Angel identified herself as the first girl, Beauty, and took responsibility for bringing the captive inside. I continued my own inquiry about a trained tower girl.

Angel told me that Brianna was available and handed me her biography scroll. When Brianna appeared, I recognized her immediately. She recognized me as well.

This was a girl I had owned before, and I was delighted to see her again.

⊰════════════════════════════⊱

Brianna led me into the sitting area and prepared tea with a little milk while I waited for Jake. When he joined us, I explained that she had once been mine and that I would be very pleased to have her back.

I handed over my old papers, though I initially passed him the wrong document. Jake examined the records and questioned the dates and sequence of ownership. I could not recall every detail clearly enough to explain it all at once.

Brianna supplied more of the history. She said Kaleen Merrymont had bought her from me, and that Audrey Malone had later owned and abandoned her. Jake acknowledged that the papers showed my former ownership, but explained that subsequent events had brought Brianna into his ownership.

I made it clear that I was not denying that she was his. I was asking whether we could arrange for me to have her again, and I wanted everything done legally.

Jake explained that his house required a rental before a sale. In consideration of our history, he offered a seven-day rental for fifteen copper rather than his usual minimum of fifteen days. The rental fee would be non-refundable. After the seven days, a sale could be conducted for the agreed price of one silver.

I accepted the arrangement.

Jake prepared the contract, signed it, and applied his seal. I read it, signed and sealed it, and slid the coins across his desk. He accepted the payment and confirmed that our rental business was concluded.

Brianna was coming home with me for the week. The purchase would come later, after the rental and the necessary paperwork.

⊰════════════════════════════⊱

I showed Brianna the Educational Hall and then brought her to my home. I told her I would add a bed in the bedroom and encouraged her to look around. She had a real-life meeting that evening, so I dismissed her to attend it.

Later, I found Odette writing a note to Jessika about the arrangement with Gajane. She said the contract would include Gajane’s requested terms without requiring her to give up her free status. She had even had the material translated into German. I reminded her to make sure everything was in writing and wished her well with Jessika’s help.

I also told her about finding one of my former girls and renting her for the week. Odette recognized what a pleasant surprise that must have been. I was still excited about it.

Kael and I then looked at his place. He set his home there, and we spoke about being neighbors. He praised Trygg’s work, but naturally returned to the subject of my helping with the decorating.

At my house, I told him more about Brianna. I had owned her back in May and had not really wanted to let her go. I also explained that my separate request to Nick remained open. Nick had told me I needed to speak with the two girls myself first, so I was still watching for Leena and the Angel named in that request.

When Brianna returned, she joined us. Kael asked whether she could read and write and whether she could help with my teaching. She answered that she could read, write, do mathematics, and support my work. That was encouraging to hear.

I had put a basket with a cushion upstairs for her to sleep in. It was not the old one she remembered, which I had not yet found, but it would give her a place to rest while I continued looking.

⊰════════════════════════════⊱

Before Kael left, we spoke about my meeting with Kelli the following morning. He suggested a rather long title involving being a magistrate at large and a senior teacher. I told him it was too much of a mouthful. Nothing had been settled; the meeting would be about my position in the city.

I explained tomorrow’s schedule to Brianna: Kelli at seven in the morning SLT, followed by classes at noon and four. It would be a busier day.

I also told her I would be teaching here rather than continuing in Olni, where attendance had been very poor. My attention was turning toward the work I could do in Turmus.

Our quieter conversation included her time zone, her former owner’s death, and adjustments to her appearance. I offered my sympathy when I saw how much her late owner had meant to her. I wanted her to feel comfortable in her own skin as well as comfortable in the house.

There were still small household things to sort out, including a chair whose placement could wait until morning. By then it was very late for me in Florida, and I needed to prepare for bed.

I told Brianna that it was nice to have her back. After a day of inquiries, confusion over names, old paperwork, and new arrangements, that was the part I was happiest to carry into the night.

Getting Ready to Return

Location: Turmus

Today was another quiet day as I prepared to become more active in Turmus again. I have been away longer than I had intended, but I am finally feeling ready to return to teaching and become involved in the city again. I have missed the Educational Hall, my classes, and simply being around everyone.

I have now been in Turmus for about three months and have moved away from Olni. With that change, I have been thinking more about what my place in Turmus will be. Teaching is something I definitely want to continue, but there are still questions about my official standing within the city.

I need to speak with Kelli about whether I am officially considered a Scribe of Turmus. I also need to find out whether he still wants me to serve as a Magistrate here. After more than fifteen years of service as a Magistrate, I had thought I was retiring from that part of my life and concentrating on teaching, but I need to know what is expected of me in Turmus.  UPDATE: I am a Scribe of Turmus.

There was activity around the city today as well. The Turmus Slave House sent out a notice welcoming newcomers and introducing the House Slavers: Cassian Leoric, Toby Darrow, Ragnar Bloodaxe, and Nicholas Eel. Another notice announced that the Slave House was seeking new stock and welcoming slaves looking for a home in Turmus.

My attention, however, is mostly on the Educational Hall. The new classes are ready, and tomorrow I plan to let everyone know that they have been posted and that classes begin Tuesday. I am looking forward to standing before a class again, answering questions, and getting back to something I truly enjoy.

It feels good to be returning.

Another Day

Tuesday, September 1, 2026

The morning began quietly with Carola and me talking over blackwine. We started OOC, discussing my old computer—which had literally been sitting on a shelf long enough that I had to dust it off before using it—and the possibility that I may need to replace it.

Our conversation drifted back into Turmus. I was trying to remember the name of the woman from Olni who had expressed interest in joining us for blackwine in the mornings. I thought perhaps I could send a slave to see whether she was free. As I told Carola, it never hurts to invite people.

I also mentioned that I had resigned as Magistrate of Olni. I have not completely abandoned Olni, but at this point I am essentially there to teach. There simply has not been enough RP or enough people around to talk with, and I have more interaction in Turmus—even on Turmus's quieter days.

Carola told me that Odette had found someone willing to put together a basic class on animations. I offered the Educational Hall, but apparently Odette has already arranged with Lady Selia to use the dance pavilion because the class will be partly OOC. It will be open throughout Gor to Free and slaves alike, with TFWDC sponsoring it. The pavilion should work beautifully for it.

Later in the Day

The morning was eventually interrupted by a region restart, sending everyone scrambling to relog.

I returned to Second Life later in the afternoon and received the Thunder Mountain BTB Active RP landing information in preparation for activities there.

By evening, things had become considerably livelier. Nicholas Eel could be heard shouting and chanting, including a rather enthusiastic call of "hail to the music maker." Nearby RP continued as Ember requested Kalana wine and Lora hurried off to fetch it.

After the seriousness of the morning, the noise and ordinary bustle of the evening felt almost reassuring.

To Dos

  • Remember that Odette's animation class will be held at the dance pavilion and sponsored by TFWDC.
  • Watch for the woman from Olni who wanted to join us for morning blackwine and invite her when possible.
  • Keep Carola's revelation about Crassus and her parentage confidential.
  • Be aware of Carola's concerns regarding the warrant and the possibility of mercenary involvement.
  • Follow up with Carola as the situation develops.

A New Face, a Salt Dispute, and Lessons Ahead

Regions: Turmus,Olni

Events: Welcoming Freya of Thentis,Morning Blackwine,Salt Bounty Discussion,Class Calendar Work

A Visitor Lost Beneath Turmus

My day began early in Turmus, where I met a visibly upset woman who had found her way into the maze beneath the city. She introduced herself as Freya Moonchild of Thentis and blamed the Harbor Master, Zino, for telling her to explore without warning her about what she might find below. She had feared that she would not make her way out again.

After she had calmed, Freya explained that Zino had suggested she might find business opportunities in Turmus. The passage had been inexpensive, so she decided to visit. She complimented the city and told me that she belonged to the Slavers’ Caste. Her business at her Home Stone had declined because of circumstances she did not fully explain, and she was considering some form of import and export trade involving rarities.

The city’s slaver was not expected to be available for some time, and Carola was busy, so I offered Freya a beverage and led her to the inn. I showed her the restaurant, the rooms, and the place where several of us free women gather for blackwine in the mornings. I told her that four of us could sit comfortably before we needed to add more chairs.

Freya spoke warmly of Thentis and admitted that blackwine was one of the things she missed most while traveling. I told her she would be welcome to join us, since we always enjoy speaking with women from other cities.

⊰════════════════════════════⊱

Blackwine with Freya and Carola

Carola arrived a short time later, and I introduced the two women. Freya explained that she had not yet arranged passage back to Thentis and might remain in Turmus for a while. Carola and I both encouraged her to stay.

Freya had no intention of sleeping aboard the Harbor Master’s ship. Carola warned that doing so could compromise a free woman and advised her to ignore unwanted advances. I offered Freya the inn room bearing the reserved sign, explaining that it had once been my room. She accepted the suggestion and said she hoped to continue exploring Turmus over the next several days.

After Freya left, Carola admitted that she could not quite understand her. Freya did not behave as roughly as Carola expected of a slaver, and Carola wondered whether she might be in disguise. Carola also observed that Turmus needed active merchants who understood their products more than it needed another slaver or another member of the High Castes.

I thought Freya seemed pleasant and interested in becoming involved in the city. Whatever her full story might be, I saw no harm in being friendly and allowing her actions to reveal her intentions in time.

⊰════════════════════════════⊱

Laela’s Messenger Story

Laela joined us and spoke excitedly about a story she was developing with Master Cooper. They were considering how a scroll girl might carry a message from one city to another while stepping beyond the most familiar stories and customs.

Laela had considered tunnels, hiding aboard a departing wagon, or even sending a vulo. Carola explained that city tunnels would not ordinarily connect distant cities and that a kajira traveling alone would face serious danger. She suggested that the girl might disguise herself as a she-urt, since such a lowly free woman might travel without drawing the same attention as a richly dressed woman without a male guard.

Laela loved the idea and hurried to add it to the possibilities for the story. I had to step away for part of the discussion, but it was enjoyable to hear her imagination at work when I returned.

⊰════════════════════════════⊱

The Great Drama of Soap—and Salt

Pandora Audax arrived and greeted us before turning her attention to Carola. She announced that Carola had become famous and referred to an article and a wanted poster concerning the origin of the salt Carola sold.

Carola insisted that she had never claimed her salt came from a particular southern oasis or that it was mined in the Tahari. Her price list merely described red salt from deep inland pits and mines, transported by caravans across plains and deserts. Pandora agreed that the list did not name the disputed oasis, but advised Carola to seek protection from the city guard because a mercenary might attempt to collect the bounty whether the accusation was true or not.

Pandora teased that, if Carola were taken and sold for one gold tarsk, she might buy her and perhaps free her once the paperwork was finished. Carola was not amused. She intended to continue selling her salt and planned to consult a Magistrate about the wanted notice.

When Carola asked me who the best Magistrate in Turmus was now that I had retired, I named Kelli. When she asked for the second best, I suggested Marcus and noted that Aries was still new. Carola decided to leave a message for Marcus and ask for a meeting.

Pandora departed after giving Laela a bar of her “best soap in Gor.” I could only observe that the encounter had been different and wonder aloud who knew there could be so much drama in soap. Carola quickly corrected me: the dispute was about salt.

⊰════════════════════════════⊱

Checking the Class Calendars

I spent much of the remaining day checking and adjusting the public class-calendar boards in Turmus and Olni. The two cities use different teaching schedules: Olni’s board showed Saturday classes at noon and Tuesday and Thursday classes at 2:00 p.m., while Turmus showed Saturday at 11:00 a.m. and Tuesday and Thursday classes at noon and 4:00 p.m.

I traveled briefly to Olni in the morning to examine its board, returned to Turmus, and later made another quick comparison between the two. Several board refreshes showed the schedule expanding through October 10. I also turned off the date headers on the Turmus display and worked on updating lesson titles.

One important title changed from The Administrator: Office, Authority, and Responsibility to Administrator and Ubar: Civil Rule and the Rule of War. The September 10 display, however, showed The Slave Market: Inspection, Bidding, and Sale at noon while the 4:00 p.m. event still showed Weights, Measures, and Merchant Scales. That remaining mismatch will need to be checked.

The calendar work took many small adjustments, but the boards were beginning to show the fuller progression of lessons planned for the coming months.

To Do

  • Welcome Freya again if she returns and confirm that the reserved inn room is available for her.

  • Introduce Freya to appropriate merchant contacts if she decides to establish a business in Turmus.

  • Ask whether Carola was able to meet with Marcus about the wanted notice and salt accusation.

  • Correct or confirm the September 10 Turmus calendar entries so the noon and 4:00 p.m. class titles agree.

  • Compare the remaining Olni and Turmus calendar dates, titles, and city-specific teaching times.
