Blackwine, Ceremony Plans, and Festival Games

Times: SLT

Locations: Morning gathering with Kael, city streets, Turmus Theater, and festival gathering areas.

Summary: The day began with a hug and blackwine with Kael, followed by conversation about faith, our courtship, and the coming Companionship Ceremony. The class calendar board displayed the corrected November titles. The festival continued with the Girl Chase and an afternoon Game of Favors, with plenty of excitement, friendly teasing, and a few uncertainties over the rules.

Morning Blackwine and Conversation with Kael — 6:07–6:34 a.m.

Kael greeted me with a warm hug, and I told him how good it was to see him. I offered blackwine, which he said he needed before beginning his morning. Our conversation wandered from coffee to my summer in Puerto Rico, where I had gone on a mission and stayed with English-speaking people.

We spoke about our faith and education. I told him I had been raised Lutheran, now called myself Christian, and held a BA in Missions and Theology. Kael shared that he was Catholic and a lay member of the Dominican Order. I told him about Eagle Brook Church, its online services, and the series of talks on family and Proverbs. It was a chance to learn more about one another beyond the business and bustle of Turmus.

A morning restart briefly interrupted the surroundings. I joked about the daily Gorquakes during the festivities as the neighboring region disappeared from view.

Courtship, Clothing, and Ceremony Plans — 6:34–7:06 a.m.

Kael admired the outfit I had helped him find. I told him I had more places to shop and a few Marketplace outfits he might like. We considered making time over the weekend to look together, and I checked that he knew how to save and change outfits in Firestorm.

He asked whether I was enjoying our courting time as much as he was. I told him how much I enjoyed his company and attention, and that I hoped it would continue for a long time. We spoke about the interest others had taken in our courtship and about Ella helping with the decorations.

Kael suggested Selia as a possible officiant. I explained that I preferred Aries. William had performed our previous ceremony, but he was not in this city, and Aries seemed the most practical choice to me. Kael accepted that. We reaffirmed November 19 at 5 p.m. for the ceremony and discussed the possibility of a larger celebration and reception. He also suggested attending any suitable Halloween events together.

The Trial Behind Us and Plans Ahead — 7:06–7:34 a.m.

Kael said I had handled the trial well despite the unexpected turns. I told him I was glad it was over. I also mentioned that Kelli had said we would talk that week, but the conversation had not yet happened and I had not seen Kelli.

We agreed that we needed a photograph together, both to display at home and to use in our invitation. Kael thought I could use some help with the planning, though Ink was not always available. We spoke briefly about Grace; he said she was not yet his and that any future arrangement remained uncertain. He could use someone to help with his office and flat.

I told him I truly enjoyed our mornings together. He spoke about preparing lesson plans on Justice and Liturgical Prayer, and I said I would enjoy reading them. He offered to upload the material after sending it out.

Before leaving, he encouraged me to relax and avoid taking on more tasks with the ceremony less than three weeks away. I agreed not to add anything. We shared another hug before he went.

The Class Calendar Board — 7:40 a.m.–12:05 p.m.

The morning board messages first showed the earlier class titles. By 8:40 a.m., the display had refreshed with the corrected November schedule: The Codes of the Warriors, Metalworkers and the Forging of Gorean Weapons, Law on Gor, The Scribes, and Bakers and Butchers. The later display also showed the November 14 class, Magistrates, Courts, and the Hearing of Disputes, together with the December classes. It was useful to see the revised titles appearing on the board.

◈◉◈═════════════════════════════════════════════════ ◈◉◈

A Troubled Arrival in the Morning Record — 9:43–11:09 a.m.

The morning local log also recorded an encounter between Berick Gothly and an armed newcomer, Spira. He called her a panther and demanded that she surrender her weapons and armor. She described herself as unfamiliar with the land and resisted his demands. The exchange escalated: Berick struck her with the blunt end of his sword, bound her, and removed her equipment. Jean later offered to guide him to the Slave House, and he led the newcomer away.

I did not speak or take part in that exchange in the supplied record. Her eventual registration, ownership, and final disposition were not shown.

◈◉◈═════════════════════════════════════════════════ ◈◉◈

Girl Chase at the Theater — 12:35–1:30 p.m.

The Theater became the gathering point for the Girl Chase. Augustus explained the rules, and Ella helped organize the cages and keep count. The runners were given a head start before the hunters went out. Spectators cheered as the captives were brought back, and the number still hiding gradually dwindled.

There was plenty of teasing about the men's hunting skills and the girls' hiding places. Daffodil proved the hardest to find and was the last runner brought in. When the count was complete, Augustus announced Roland Kasimir in first place, Zeeb Al Sahra second, and Lothar Huntsman third. Daffodil won for remaining uncaptured the longest. Ella handed out trophies, and the participants thanked the organizers.

Emily Steele came to stand beside me during the event, carrying a folded newspaper, and asked whether I was new to Turmus. A little later, I remarked that I liked where I lived.

◈◉◈═════════════════════════════════════════════════ ◈◉◈

A Close Obstacle Course Result — 2:06 p.m.

A public announcement described a very close contest between Candi and Daff, with Candi winning by one second. The speaker said prizes would be handed out to the winners and a consolation prize to Daff. The announcement did not provide a complete set of times or placings.

◈◉◈═════════════════════════════════════════════════ ◈◉◈

The Game of Favors — 3:02–3:59 p.m.

Emily set out a box of scarves and explained how the Game of Favors worked. The women were to carry a scarf and persuade free men to accept one. The scoreboard tracked distinct recipients, so the same man could not count twice for a participant. Emily initially announced prizes for the first women to give away ten scarves.

Jessika set off eagerly to find recipients. The task proved harder than expected, with few available men and some apparently suspicious that the offer might be a trick. Emily admitted that organizing an event felt rather different from her usual work as a physician.

The rules remained a subject of discussion. Selia said the game was for the men and that the man with the most scarves would win. Emily's earlier explanation and the scripted scoreboard had instead focused on the women giving them away. Jessika asked whether women could receive scarves too, but Selia had said no. By 3:54 p.m., Jessika's scoreboard showed five distinct recipients. No final winner was announced in the supplied record.

Clarifying Slave House Ownership and Sales — 4:09–4:19 p.m.

Later conversation turned to a visitor's interest in purchasing slaves. Selia explained that the city Slave House did not sell its slaves to people who lived outside Turmus. Aries clarified that July belonged to him and was not for sale; Melita was city Slave House stock whom he had won the use of through an auction rental; and Daft belonged to the private House Lupus Lacum.

Selia repeated that the city stock was not available for purchase by the visitor and suggested speaking with Jake about the private house. No sale was completed in the supplied record.

Tea, Preparations, and an Unexpected Report

Journal Entry — October 19, 2026, Monday

Locations: Turmus — Educational Hall, Infirmary, Magistrate Office, my home, and outside the kennels.

◈◉◈═════════════════════════════════════════════════ ◈◉◈

The morning brought a brief conversation with Dexter about Nadia’s trial. I told him that I had heard unofficially that closing arguments would be at 8:00 a.m. the following morning. He hoped I would succeed in clearing her name. I hoped so too, but whatever the decision, I knew I had done my best for her. His encouragement was welcome after the work and worry of preparing the case.

During the afternoon, Amalia approached and asked whether she could be of service. With the next class not until November, I suggested a thorough cleaning of the Educational Hall, including the ceiling, walls, and floors. She was uncertain how she would reach the ceiling, so we discussed finding a ladder. I reminded her to begin at the highest point, since dirt falls downward. There was time to spread the work over the coming two weeks, and she agreed to help. Ubara Selia stopped to greet us before returning to her own work.

Nadia sought me out later, although difficulties seeing her delayed our conversation. When we met near the Infirmary, she said she wanted to tell me privately about something that had happened with a guard. She had come to see a physician to make certain she was well. I asked her to find me afterward so we could speak without leaving any surprises for the trial.

Later, Nadia joined me at the Magistrate Office, and I invited her home for tea. Ink hurried ahead to put the water on. Dexter accompanied us briefly, then left us to discuss what needed attention. Ink prepared and served the tea, adding a little cream to mine, and gave us a comfortable setting for a troubling conversation.

Nadia told me that Warrior Arcadius had detained her when she attempted to leave Turmus to obtain hair dye for her shop in Valaris. She said he accused her of defying the Ubar’s travel restriction and attempting to bribe him. According to her account, he took her bags and brooch and placed her in a warriors’ cell. I questioned her carefully when she said he had “stripped” her of her belongings, and she clarified that she had remained fully clothed.

I asked whether an Incident Report had been completed. Nadia believed the warrior might have done one, but I had not seen it, so I began taking notes. She mentioned another man being present but could not remember his name. Her account referred both to the previous night and to early October 19, so the precise timing still needed clarification. She was worried that this new matter might affect her case, and I was glad she had told me before the hearing.

Kael joined us during the visit. There was a little welcome laughter about my new ring, with Ink repeating that it could be seen from space. Even with work before us, it was pleasant to share those lighter moments. After Nadia left, I told Kael that the trial was expected at 8:00 a.m. He said work would prevent him from attending. Ink reminded me to eat the raspberry muffins she had made for the morning, and I thanked her for thinking of me.

That evening, Aries asked whether I was ready for the trial to continue. I assured him that I was. He said he would be unable to attend because of other obligations, and later wished me luck. I greeted Skyrn and spent a little time among the gathering outside the kennels before deciding that I should retire.

Before ending the day, I made one final note to check with Marcus about an Incident Report concerning something that had happened in the kennels around 6:30 p.m. The details were not recorded in this portion of the log, but the follow-up needed to remain on my list. With the trial ahead, it was time to rest.

Getting Ready to Return

Location: Turmus

Today was another quiet day as I prepared to become more active in Turmus again. I have been away longer than I had intended, but I am finally feeling ready to return to teaching and become involved in the city again. I have missed the Educational Hall, my classes, and simply being around everyone.

I have now been in Turmus for about three months and have moved away from Olni. With that change, I have been thinking more about what my place in Turmus will be. Teaching is something I definitely want to continue, but there are still questions about my official standing within the city.

I need to speak with Kelli about whether I am officially considered a Scribe of Turmus. I also need to find out whether he still wants me to serve as a Magistrate here. After more than fifteen years of service as a Magistrate, I had thought I was retiring from that part of my life and concentrating on teaching, but I need to know what is expected of me in Turmus.  UPDATE: I am a Scribe of Turmus.

There was activity around the city today as well. The Turmus Slave House sent out a notice welcoming newcomers and introducing the House Slavers: Cassian Leoric, Toby Darrow, Ragnar Bloodaxe, and Nicholas Eel. Another notice announced that the Slave House was seeking new stock and welcoming slaves looking for a home in Turmus.

My attention, however, is mostly on the Educational Hall. The new classes are ready, and tomorrow I plan to let everyone know that they have been posted and that classes begin Tuesday. I am looking forward to standing before a class again, answering questions, and getting back to something I truly enjoy.

It feels good to be returning.

Another Day

Tuesday, September 1, 2026

The morning began quietly with Carola and me talking over blackwine. We started OOC, discussing my old computer—which had literally been sitting on a shelf long enough that I had to dust it off before using it—and the possibility that I may need to replace it.

Our conversation drifted back into Turmus. I was trying to remember the name of the woman from Olni who had expressed interest in joining us for blackwine in the mornings. I thought perhaps I could send a slave to see whether she was free. As I told Carola, it never hurts to invite people.

I also mentioned that I had resigned as Magistrate of Olni. I have not completely abandoned Olni, but at this point I am essentially there to teach. There simply has not been enough RP or enough people around to talk with, and I have more interaction in Turmus—even on Turmus's quieter days.

Carola told me that Odette had found someone willing to put together a basic class on animations. I offered the Educational Hall, but apparently Odette has already arranged with Lady Selia to use the dance pavilion because the class will be partly OOC. It will be open throughout Gor to Free and slaves alike, with TFWDC sponsoring it. The pavilion should work beautifully for it.

Later in the Day

The morning was eventually interrupted by a region restart, sending everyone scrambling to relog.

I returned to Second Life later in the afternoon and received the Thunder Mountain BTB Active RP landing information in preparation for activities there.

By evening, things had become considerably livelier. Nicholas Eel could be heard shouting and chanting, including a rather enthusiastic call of "hail to the music maker." Nearby RP continued as Ember requested Kalana wine and Lora hurried off to fetch it.

After the seriousness of the morning, the noise and ordinary bustle of the evening felt almost reassuring.

To Dos

  • Remember that Odette's animation class will be held at the dance pavilion and sponsored by TFWDC.
  • Watch for the woman from Olni who wanted to join us for morning blackwine and invite her when possible.
  • Keep Carola's revelation about Crassus and her parentage confidential.
  • Be aware of Carola's concerns regarding the warrant and the possibility of mercenary involvement.
  • Follow up with Carola as the situation develops.
