I struggled to surface, my eyelids feeling impossibly heavy, until a sliver of the dimly lit room came into view. "Where am I?" I croaked, the words tasting like dust. My skull felt as though a thousand tiny hammers were at work, a constant, agonizing throb where it had met the brutal hardness of the cement bench. Every shift sent a jolt of pain through the raw, scraped skin down my front, and my left shoulder screamed in protest with even the slightest movement. The more I tried to understand, the more the fog thickened, leaving me utterly bewildered. "How did I possibly end up in such a place?"

“Steady, don’t force yourself to rise yet,” Kaiko murmured, voice low and measured, as if speaking too loudly might splinter the fragile thread holding you conscious. With deft movements, they lifted your head just enough to slip a folded cloth beneath, cushioning the bruised skull.

“You’ve taken a hard blow,” they continued, assessing the angry scrapes along your chest and the unnatural angle of your shoulder. “Pain is expected—but confusion…” Kaiko’s gaze lingered on your unfocused eyes. “…confusion worries me.”

They dipped a cloth into a nearby basin, the cool water wrung free with practiced efficiency before brushing it across your cracked lips. “Drink slowly,” Kaiko instructed, holding the edge steady. “You’re safe, for

"Muse is home," I repeated the words, letting them settle over me like a comforting blanket. A profound relaxation seeped into my aching muscles, the tight knot in my stomach beginning to unravel. My concern, sharp and immediate for my friend, softened into grateful acceptance. "And I am... where? The infirmary?" I asked, my voice now much calmer, seeking gentle confirmation. A soft, almost childlike whisper escaped my lips, "Yes, mama," as if accepting a comforting truth from a familiar guardian. With that, I fully settled back against the rough cot, allowing the blessed calm to truly take hold.

I allowed myself to truly rest, my muscles loosening their death-grip of tension, letting the attending woman work with a trust born of exhaustion. But that fragile peace was abruptly shattered. A sudden, blinding bolt of agony tore through my left side as she expertly, brutally, reset my dislocated shoulder. A sharp, involuntary scream ripped from my throat, raw and piercing, before I could even stifle it. Tears, fresh and hot, sprang to my eyes from the sheer, shocking pain. Once the immediate throbbing subsided, leaving a duller, persistent ache, I accepted the offered cup of steaming tea. Its warmth was a gentle comfort, and as I sipped the herbal brew, a deep, pervasive sleepiness began to creep over me, pulling me towards oblivion like a comforting tide.

" Let me know when she awakes.. she might need more of the herbal tea, and  some broth to start with i we don't need her puking all over" she advised them.

I am Kaiko..." she started  " and yes she is in there I just set her shoulder and put it in a sling and wraped her head then gave her herbal tea to reduce sweelling and help with the head and pain from her injuries. I didn't find any dagger wounds or anything else so ...  she will rest dfor now   the 24 hr have laped  so... she needs to rest now"

[10:24] Odette Atheria breathes a sigh of relief.  "What a horrifying experience for her.  I am so glad to hear she will just need rest and herbal tea.  Her shoulder, will she be able to write?"  Odette is suddenly worried if her dear friend will be able to perform her duties.

[11:23] Kati Evans: A soft murmur of voices, indistinct yet undeniably familiar, drifted from the adjacent room, gently pulling me back from the edge of sleep. My eyelids felt heavy, glued shut, but a sudden surge of urgency cut through the haze. "Muse... is that you?" I tried to call out, but the words emerged as a thick, slurred mumble, each syllable a monumental effort against the insistent tug of the sedatives. I forced my mouth to work, trying desperately to shape the next question, "How... how are you?" My tongue felt too large for my mouth, and the words were still garbled, but the raw concern in my heart was unmistakable, overriding the deepening wave of sleepiness.

My thoughts felt like they were moving through deep water, slow and imprecise. "I... I would like to meet the..." I paused, rummaging through the hazy corners of my memory for the right word. "...the guard," I finally managed, the word feeling oddly heavy on my tongue. But even as I formed the request, a more urgent, visceral concern surged forward, cutting through the remaining muddle. My voice, though still slurred, gained a desperate edge. "But Muse... tell me, truly, are you all right? "

[11:44] Kati Evans: A surge of determination pulsed through me, a fleeting desire to breach the wall of fog that encased my senses. I strained against the overwhelming lethargy, trying to push myself upright, to sit and discern the faces attached to those voices. But my limbs felt like lead, unresponsive, refusing to obey. The fog in my mind was too thick, the drugs too insistent, a relentless tide pulling me back down. Even as I heard the distinct resonance of a man's voice, mingling with Muse's familiar tones, their words remained indistinct, blurring into the oppressive haze that kept me pinned, helpless, to the cot.

[11:44] Muse Steele (muse.triellis) lead the man in and closed the door behind them, moving back up aside her counsel but on the other side now.  "Kati, This man is Jon of Treve, he is going to be my personal guard among other things from here on, this means that will extend to you as well being that you are rarely far from my side," She turned to the trevian then, continuing.  "This is Lady Kati Evans of the scribes.  Anything you need to know of me, my whereabouts, my appointments or  my business, you can find out from her if I cannot be found."

[11:53] Kati Evans: A soft, warm smile spread across my lips, a genuine pleasure blooming in my chest as I heard Muse's kind words about me. It was a balm to my aching spirit. I turned my head slightly, my gaze, though still somewhat hazy from the lingering drugs, finding the new presence. "Ah, Jon of Treve," I murmured, my voice still a little thick but infused with warmth. "It is truly nice to make your acquaintance. Hopefully," I added, a small, wry grin playing on my lips as I tried to inject some lightness into my rather undignified state, "the next time we meet, I will be a good deal more... upright. Smiling and trying to make light of the situation."

[11:55] Muse Steele (muse.triellis) couldn't help but smile at the older woman's grit and reached out to gently pat her shoulder.  "I am sure you will be fine.  Lady Odette tells me that a day or so of rest and you will be at least able to return to your apartments and complete your recovery at home rather than in his... sterile place," she spoke the last with a clear note of distaste as though something foul had been placed in her mouth.

"For now, Lady I will leave you to that rest.  I need to take this man and show him where the scribe's hall is and then the lower city where the access to the cove is.  If you are threatened in any way from here on out, this is the man you seek out."
