Journal Entry: April 9, 2026 Location: Blodfjellet Fjord, Tuchuk Camp Mood/Title: Tradition, Territory, and Unspoken Rules
Today provided a deeper look into the Northern way of life, and the contrast with the city of Ar is profound. I spent the day with Father, visiting a Tuchuk camp located within the Fjord. It is a rugged, unyielding place, where survival and hierarchy are worn as clearly as the leathers and furs the people wear. The atmosphere is starkly different from anything I have known—the customs are raw, direct, and dictated by the strength of the Jarl and the traditions of the camp.
There was a moment of tension when Father grew concerned about the protocol regarding how slaves address those present; in his eyes, there is a clear order that must be respected at all times, and he is quick to correct any perceived lapse. I find myself observing more than participating, learning the nuances of these interactions. It is a lesson in power, respect, and the sheer volatility of this northern climate—both of weather and temperament.
I was officially registered today, and though the processes are different from what I am used to, I am beginning to understand the necessity of this bureaucracy. I am also mindful of the impending medical appointment on Thursday; the uncertainty lingers in the back of my mind, even as I navigate these new social circles. I am grateful for the chance to see these places, though I remain cautious. The North demands a thick skin, and I am still in the process of growing one.
To Do:
Continue to study the local regulations and expectations of this camp—I need to know the rhythm of this place if I am to remain here safely.
Reach out to the Academy colleagues once more to confirm the schedule for the "War of the Thassa" lecture.
Maintain care for the begonias; the indoor environment has been stable, which is a relief.
