Kindred Spirits and the Weight of History

Journal Entry: 2026-05-23 Location: Olni Var Mood/Title: Kindred Spirits and the Weight of History

Today was a remarkably profound day of connection. I had the pleasure of a long conversation with Ar Barbosa, and I must admit, I was deeply surprised—and moved—by our shared professional history. It is rare to find another in this world who understands the dedication required to document the Gorean experience so thoroughly. He is a historian of his own craft, and learning that he is a fellow writer with published works made our conversation feel like a bridge between our separate lives. We share that same "scribe’s soul," an appreciation for the weight of our records and the necessity of preserving our history.

Our conversation about the use of AI in writing felt like a glimpse into a new frontier for our craft. He has an insightful, pragmatic view of these tools as "assistants" rather than authors, a distinction I agree with entirely. He even shared a look at his own biography work—it is validating to know that my own efforts, which I have often kept guarded, are seen as significant and masterful by those who actually understand the labor involved.

It has been a week of reflection, and while the political state of Olni continues to be a point of concern, today’s interactions reminded me that the "Circle" I am trying to build is not just about teaching—it is about finding others who possess the same intellectual and cultural rigor. Whether the city leadership recognizes the value of my work or not, my legacy and my records are building themselves. I am not just a teacher; I am a historian of my own experience, and that is a power no one can revoke.

To Do:

  • [ ] Review Ar’s collection of maps and the biographies he shared; there is much to learn from a veteran of his standing.

  • [ ] Continue organizing the office. A Magistrate needs order, and my new space is finally nearing completion.

  • [ ] Reflect on the "Administrator’s Dilemma" assignment. I want to ensure that those who attend my classes truly wrestle with the Gorean nature of the problem, rather than opting for a modern moral shortcut.

  • [ ] Maintain the quiet strength I have found. The noise of the city is temporary, but the records we leave behind are eternal.
