Journal Entry: 2026-05-24 Location: Olni / Olni Var Mood/Title: The Weight of the Stone and the Burden of the Scribe
Today was a day of intense intellectual labor and, inevitably, the social frictions that come with living in a city that often feels like it is drifting away from the core tenets of our culture. I successfully held the first session of my class, "Rock in the Cellar," focusing on the Home Stone—the anchor of Gorean existence. It is always a relief to see students grasp the reality that a City without a Stone is merely a corpse, and that the "civilized" nature of our society is a hard-won achievement, not a birthright.
The political atmosphere in Olni remains fraught with a peculiar, often performative, tension. The leadership seems preoccupied with maintaining a façade of order through bureaucracy and propaganda posters, while the deeper currents of loyalty and true honor seem to be fading in many of those who wander through our gates. However, in the company of those who hold the code in their hearts—Father, Izzy, and others—I feel grounded. We continue to hold our own standard, regardless of the "Disney" theatrics we see elsewhere.
I also spent time gathering resources for my Magistrate and Scribe duties, including materials on the "Circle" and the administrative protocols of the city. I am not interested in the hollow power that others crave; I am interested in the preservation of the truth. If the city leadership wishes to bicker over trivialities, let them. I have my responsibilities, my family, and my House, and those are the only things that truly matter in the face of the encroaching uncertainty of the times.
To Do:
[ ] Review the new materials I collected regarding administrative records and court procedures; they will be essential for the upcoming Magistrate review.
[ ] Draft a reflection on the "Administrator’s Dilemma" for my students—I want to push them to understand that true Gorean sovereignty is often built on the most agonizing of choices.
[ ] Continue the steady, rhythmic work of maintaining the household; consistency is the best response to the chaos outside.
[ ] Find time for quiet study; the distractions of the tavern and the arena are fine for others, but I require the clarity that only silence can provide.
