Title: The Spectacle of Strength
The "Thing" has reached a fever pitch, and today was a masterclass in the contrast between the superficial displays of strength and the underlying realities of Gorean life. I spent the afternoon immersed in the festivities at Willow Isle, observing the various tournaments and trials of skill. It is one thing to study the laws of combat in a library, but quite another to watch men—some of whom claim the titles of Jarls and warriors—clash in the arena for the amusement of the crowd.
There is an undeniable, primal energy to these displays. Watching the combatants navigate the "barrel race" and the fist-fighting tournaments, I couldn't help but note who possessed actual discipline and who was merely playing the part of a warrior for the sake of the crowd. It reinforces my earlier observations: the genuine martial spirit is becoming rare, and those who possess it are often the ones who don't feel the need to boast about their prowess. My own observations remain focused. I am not here to be part of the show; I am here to understand the players and the stage they stand upon. My time with Sheena continues to be productive; she is learning that being a "proper" girl in my household requires as much precision as it does obedience. She is becoming an extension of my own expectations, and that is exactly how it should be.
To Do:
[ ] Record the observations from today’s tournaments—not for the sake of the record, but to identify which men possess the tactical discipline we might one day need.
[ ] Continue Sheena's training; she must remain observant and silent, learning the difference between "public" behavior and the quiet, disciplined service of my House.
[ ] Keep the Magistrate's records updated. With the Thing in full swing, there will undoubtedly be disputes that require an impartial and knowledgeable hand to resolve.
[ ] Prepare for the next round of "Circle" classes. The momentum is building, and I want to ensure that those who attend leave with something that stays with them long after the festival flags are struck.
