Title: A Long Day of Lessons, Corrections, and Tavern Music

I began the morning moving between Olni and Turmus while the city was still recovering from the trouble of the previous night. Kelli explained that a moderator had returned too many objects and that the Ubar and Ubara had requested a rollback. I was concerned because I had classes to teach and attend, and Turmus Tavern Night was also scheduled. By the time I returned to the Educational Hall later in the morning, the city appeared much closer to normal.

I checked the Whimsique rental and paid Rental #25, extending it until November 5 at 6:00 a.m. The land-impact report afterward showed 108 prims in use against a limit of 50, with 98 attributed to me, so that may need to be reviewed. During the morning I also received the Turmus building platform for the Merchant Fair from Carola and the Turmus Campfire Slave Class item from Nicholas.

Kelli was working at Pier69 Club in TBoy Cove, so I visited for a time and listened to DJ Daff. Lin, Dafydd, Nuada, Fish, and several others were there. It was a pleasant early-morning diversion, although I left shortly before seven so that I could eat and prepare for the long day ahead.

At eleven, I taught the first Turmus presentation of Class 1, “An Introduction to the Gorean World,” in the Educational Hall. This opened Level 1, The World, and its first track on Customs and Social Conduct. The class covered Gor as the Counter-Earth; the Priest-Kings and their technological restrictions; cities, Home Stones, and civic loyalty; caste and occupation; the distinction between free and slave; family and Free Companionship; the natural world and travel; and the importance of distinguishing law, custom, command, opinion, and circumstance.

The discussion was active. ThunderBolt raised the Three Pillars of Gor, while Kaellaed questioned whether anything involving caste could truly be universal when Torvaldslanders reject the caste system. We also discussed how much a person’s clothing can reveal in roleplay. I said that visible clothing and insignia can offer useful clues, while Akeshi cautioned that disguises and false claims remain possible. Carola reasonably observed that players should respond to what is visibly presented rather than rely on information their characters could not know.

After dismissing the Turmus class, I traveled to Olni and taught the lesson again at the Circle. Falconer challenged a sentence saying that the novels begin with people of Earth discovering another inhabited world. He correctly pointed out that Earth as a whole has not discovered Gor because the Priest-Kings keep it concealed. I agreed that the wording needed to be amended.

At the end of the Olni session, SaphRosie asked where Magistrates and Advocates belong within the caste system. Falconer explained that a Magistrate belongs to the Caste of Scribes. Her question also showed that my personal introduction could make listeners believe I still hold every office I have held in the past, including Head of Caste. I told her I had been listing former positions and that I am presently a Magistrate and Teacher. I decided to revise the wording in my files so that the distinction between past and present service is unmistakable.

At two, I attended Akeshi Reardon’s first lecture in a series titled “Slaves in Gor.” The lesson, “Gor’s Slave Girls Principles,” lasted nearly two hours. Akeshi discussed the meaning of kajira, the distinction between roleplay and OOC consent, training and education, obedience, service, ownership, submission, punishment, sexual restrictions, the difference between Gorean slavery and BDSM, and the place of male slaves. The discussion was lively and sometimes contentious.

I asked for the book reference supporting the claim that, in the Gorean mind, the word “woman” can only mean a slave and that Goreans therefore always say “Free Woman.” Akeshi said he would need to check. Other questions concerned whether masters commonly train their own slaves, whether a Free Woman’s physical posture can constitute submission without spoken words, whether iron belts existed in the novels, and how far roleplayers may reasonably extrapolate from things that are named in the books. Petra suggested a short guide for Free Women explaining dangerous customs in different Gorean cultures, and Akeshi thought that would make a useful future lesson.

By the time I reached Turmus Tavern Night at five, I had spent about four hours either teaching or listening to classes, and I was tired. Nicholas welcomed everyone on behalf of Turmus, the Ubar and Ubara, and Tavern Keeper ThunderBolt. He said nearly thirty people had gathered and reminded everyone that Tavern Night is held at 5:00 p.m. on the first three Saturdays of each month. Jay Sparrowtree provided the live music and accepted requests while the kajirae danced and served the guests.

I sat with Carola and the other Free Women, enjoyed the company, and asked whether there was jam for the bread. The tavern remained crowded and lively throughout the evening. Jay’s music, the dancing, service, conversation, and humor made the gathering a success. Before the night ended, Nicholas invited everyone to return the following Saturday. I said good night shortly before seven, grateful for a productive but very long day.

To Do:

- Amend Class 1 so it clearly states that Earth has not discovered Gor; only particular individuals learn of it or are brought there.

- Revise my personal introduction so former offices—including Head of Caste—are plainly identified as past service, while Magistrate and Teacher are identified as my present roles.

- Locate book references for the claims discussed during Akeshi’s class, especially the statement concerning “Free Women” and the claim about masters personally training captured panthers or other slaves.

- Consider preparing a short, book-supported guide to customs and dangers that Free Women should know in different regions of Gor.

- Review the Whimsique land-impact count and the rental’s 50-prim limit.

Summary:

The class introduced Gor as the Counter-Earth and explained the influence of the Priest-Kings, the importance of cities and Home Stones, the caste system, the absolute legal distinction between free and slave, differences among Gorean peoples, and the need to separate law from custom. Students were encouraged to examine who acted, where an event occurred, what authority applied, and whether a passage described law, custom, command, preference, opinion, or circumstance before treating it as a universal Gorean rule.

Discussion included whether Gor possesses any truly universal laws, the proposed Three Pillars of Gor, the status of Torvaldsland in relation to caste, and the role of visible clothing and insignia in roleplay. The class concluded with five practical questions for approaching any Gorean situation: Where? Who? Status? Authority? Circumstance?

Falconer McKeenan corrected the wording that suggested Earth had discovered Gor. Earth remains unaware of Gor because the Priest-Kings conceal it, although particular individuals from Earth have learned of Gor or have been transported there.

SaphRosie asked which caste includes Magistrates and Advocates. Falconer identified the Caste of Scribes. The question also revealed that the teacher’s biographical introduction did not clearly distinguish present duties from former offices. Lady Kati stated that the listed offices were past positions and that she is presently a Magistrate and Teacher. She agreed to revise the introduction.

Summary:

Akeshi distinguished a Gorean slave from slaves in other historical or fictional settings and emphasized the difference between a fictional Gorean character and the OOC player. He discussed the meaning of kajira; training and education; the ideals of pleasing beauty and obedience; service to Free Persons; the slave as property; the loss of name, possessions, and prior status; physical submission; iron belts; punishment by Free Persons; the distinction between Gorean slavery and consensual BDSM; Earth-born slaves; and male slaves.

Questions and discussion concerned masters who train slaves personally, the difference between training and education, whether perfection is a realistic expectation, the conduct of private or restricted slaves, whether posture alone can communicate submission, whether iron belts are supported by the novels, and how roleplayers may extrapolate reasonably from book-supported ingredients and technology. Lady Kati requested the source for the claim that Goreans join the words “Free Woman” because “woman” alone signifies a slave. Akeshi did not have the citation available and said he would need to check. Petra requested a region-specific guide for Free Women, and Laela asked how book-based roleplay should treat plausible things not expressly described in the novels.

Title: A Home Furnished and a Case Awaiting Judgment

I began the morning in Olni before traveling to Turmus to work on Kaellaed Rhode’s new home. He had fifty prims available, with ten already in use, so I planned the rooms carefully and created custom walls that could provide the appearance of a fully furnished home without using too many prims. By the time I finished, he had a living area, a study, a bedroom, and even a family picture upon the bedroom wall. The completed home used forty prims, leaving ten available for anything he might later wish to add.

Kael was surprised and very pleased when he saw it. He said the home felt perfect and cozy and that its appearance made him feel respected. I wanted it to suit his position and, more importantly, to give him a comfortable place where he could receive visitors. I asked him to look over the walls carefully and let me know if he wanted anything changed or if he wanted weapons displayed. He seemed amazed that so much had been fitted into the limited space.

Later, Lacey visited me in Turmus. We spoke about old conflicts involving Turmus, Cos, the Silver Blades, and Olni, as well as the shortage of active Warriors now available to defend either city. We also discussed how quiet Gor becomes during the summer. Lacey said that most people return between December and April. She also told me that, because the Fjord was no longer being used, she had advised that it be released rather than continuing to spend approximately $150 each month upon it.

During the afternoon, I showed Kael’s completed home to Carola. She thought it was cozy, well arranged for a Scribe, and an excellent use of only forty prims. She also liked the custom wall textures. Afterward, she showed me the curtains she had made for her own home. They were double-sided, with one side made translucent, and looked very nice. We discussed what might be placed upon her bedroom wall. She wanted the bedroom to remain separate from her spice shop and Merchant work, so a drying rack for herbs was firmly rejected. A peaceful painting seemed more appropriate.

Carola mentioned wanting a landscape showing the three moons above Turmus. I used Arbor to create both nighttime and daytime pictures of Turmus for her. The daylight version was especially suitable for a painting once cropped. After correcting the permissions, I gave the pictures to her, and she said she would enjoy them.

At the Olni Warrior Hall later that afternoon, I quietly observed as Lady Huntsy spoke for Berick Gothly and accepted responsibility for his conduct within Olni. Captain Falconer accepted her word and ordered Berick released. Huntsy offered to arrange a room for him at the Inn and expressed the hope that he might eventually make Olni his home. Berick said that he would not allow her to pay his legal obligations and would meet them himself.

The afternoon then took an unfortunate turn in Turmus. A restart or rollback was requested, and Kael’s newly furnished home could not safely be restored until it was completed. I had picked up the house and its contents together to protect the work, expecting the restart to occur quickly. Instead, we were told that it might take as long as twenty-four hours. When Kael and I returned later, portions of the area—including the building and Library—were still missing. Rather than remain amid the disruption, we went to the Olni Inn for tea and company.

At the Inn, I met Mersadie, a traveling musician who journeys from city to city and tavern to tavern playing her music. Falconer, Panner, and Panner’s slave Dezora were also present. Kael joined us briefly. During the conversation, I explained that Kael and I had been companions many years ago and that he had given me my first position as a Magistrate, even before I became a Scribe.

Falconer then informed me that there was a case requiring my attention. Berick had drawn steel during an argument with Dain at the Inn the previous night. He was downed, jailed overnight, and released upon Huntsy’s word. Falconer had already prepared a written report and informed Ubar Jarek. Panner had witnessed the incident and provided further details. I accepted the scroll and will begin examining the matter tomorrow.

To Do:

- Wait for confirmation that the Turmus restart or rollback is complete, then restore Kael’s home.

- Review Falconer’s report and begin the legal inquiry concerning Berick, Dain, and the drawn weapon at the Olni Inn.

- Confirm the names of all participants and witnesses and determine whether any additional statements or evidence are required.

- Check upon Panner’s arm and make certain that no injury from the incident requires further attention.

Title: The First Turmus Classes and an Unexpected Suitor

Logged in early and spent part of the morning at the Turmus Educational Hall. Laela arrived with Joseph Johnston, an old acquaintance whom I had not seen in a long time. Joseph explained that he had come to Turmus specifically to see how I was doing.

I showed him the school and told him that I continue to serve as a Magistrate and teacher in Olni while teaching here in Turmus. He was impressed by the planned curriculum, especially when I explained that the complete Levels program contains 120 classes and that the first three months are already scheduled.

Our conversation soon became more personal. Joseph asked whether I had a serious suitor and spoke of approaching Father concerning the possibility of courting me. I explained that Father requires any prospective companion to court me for three months and spend time getting to know him. Joseph said that he would contact Captain WIND and later gave me a notecard concerning my possible betrothal. He also spoke protectively about my safety and advised me to travel with an escort.

We discussed my hope of someday being companioned again and my current search for a trained girl. The girl I previously had went south seeking help, so I have contacted the Slavers in both Olni and Turmus and am waiting to hear whether a suitable trained girl becomes available. Before leaving, Joseph reminded me of his concern for my safety and said that he intended to check on me regularly.

As the noon class approached, I became nervous because Kelli had not arrived for our planned morning conversation and I was unaccustomed to having someone review my lessons before I taught them. Carola reassured me and suggested posting an announcement shortly before the class to encourage attendance. Kelli arrived just before the lesson, explaining that he had come to see the classroom.

At noon, I presented the first Turmus City lesson, Merchants and Commerce in the Gorean Novels. Carola, Kelli, ThunderBolt, and Ubara Selia attended. The class opened Track 1: Economics, Trade, and the Merchant Caste, which will continue on Thursdays.

We discussed the different forms of Gorean wealth, the meaning of “Gold has no caste,” metal coinage, foreign coins, letters of credit, Merchant Law, local city jurisdiction, pricing, ledgers, commercial risk, taxation, and the relationship between Merchant Magistrates and city Magistrates.

Kelli contributed several useful legal questions. One concerned which law would govern when someone claimed that a slave had been stolen. The discussion established that the central offense would be theft under city law rather than a Merchant dispute merely because property was involved. Kelli also explained the territorial reach of Turmus Law and noted that it includes the city and much of the surrounding land, though not the area controlled by the Wagon Peoples.

A second discussion concerned accusations that a Merchant had cheated someone. Merchant Law and a Merchant Magistrate may initially govern a commercial dispute, but proven theft or another civil offense may bring the matter before the official city court. We agreed that the best results come when the Merchant Magistrate and city Magistrate cooperate rather than compete for authority.

The class was lively and occasionally wandered from the prepared lesson, but the discussion was valuable. Kelli said afterward that he was impressed and found the class informative. ThunderBolt thanked me and said that he looked forward to the following week’s lesson.

At 4:00 PM, I offered the class again. Carola brought Storm, who wished to learn more about the Merchant role. Since no one else attended, the second session became a personal class for him. Storm listened carefully and later said that the lesson had opened his eyes to several aspects of Merchant role-play and many details he had not previously understood.

I explained that the Merchant and commerce lessons would be offered on Thursdays at both noon and 4:00 PM so students could attend whichever time suited them. I also told him that if he missed both presentations, he could ask me for the lesson afterward. Although the second session had only one student, his sincere interest made it worthwhile.

The first full day of Turmus classes ended better than I had feared. The noon session produced an excellent discussion, and the later session reached a student who genuinely wanted to improve his role-play. A classroom does not need to be crowded to accomplish something meaningful.

Conclusion:

Storm said the lesson opened his eyes to several aspects of the Merchant role that he had not previously portrayed adequately. He expressed interest in attending future Thursday classes.

Lady Kati explained that the City classes are offered on Thursdays at both 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM SLT. Students who miss both sessions may request the lesson afterward.

Logged in very early and spent some time visiting Russell at his home. He showed me through the house, including the living room, kitchen, bedroom, and a painting he had created himself. The home was especially attractive under the nighttime lighting, although he said that most of the surrounding properties remain vacant and that he rarely encounters his neighbors.

We caught up on what we had each been doing. I told him about establishing the school in Turmus and preparing the Levels Classes. I also spoke honestly about my disappointment with the school in Olni, where I have often arrived to teach only to find that no students have come. Turmus has proven more encouraging because there are people to speak with and a greater sense of interest in the Educational Hall.

Later that morning, I traveled to the Isle of Teletus for the regular Scribe Caste of Gor meeting led by Trygg Tyran. The principal subject was planning for the 2026 Scribe Summit, scheduled for September 25–27 at Thunder Mountain. The group discussed meeting locations, presentation topics, scheduling, recruitment of speakers, and coordination with the Scribe Symposium at Besnit.

After returning to Turmus, I encountered Kelli, who asked whether I would be available to speak with him the following morning before my classes. He is still reviewing the lessons and said that he finds them interesting. I gave him the planned lesson titles so we could discuss them more fully during our meeting.

Carola later asked how I selected subjects for the Levels Classes. I explained that I began by considering what people should understand about the Gorean world, its principles, and its laws, and then determined how many lessons would be needed to cover those areas properly. We also discussed the next day’s class on merchants and commerce, which is based largely on the lesson previously presented at the Turmus Merchant Fair. Carola intends to attend the earlier session.

In the afternoon, I went to Olni for the scheduled spar. There was some confusion because the calendar listed the event at 4:00 PM while another notice gave the starting time as 5:00 PM. While waiting, I visited with Ana, Huntsy, Paul, and others. The gathering also included birthday wishes for Huntsy. Huntsy spoke with Ana about developing a unified form for slave records that would reduce duplicated information and improve cooperation among the Slavers, Physicians, and Scribes. Ana agreed to meet with her and help develop the idea into a proposal for the Council.

That evening, I returned to Turmus near the conclusion of a well-attended storytelling gathering. I visited with Ubar Bactu, Ubara Selia, Kaellaed, and others. They asked about the Educational Hall and the classes scheduled for the following day. Kaellaed reported progress in his discussions with Ramius concerning the Merchants’ group agreement. The conversation developed into a broader discussion of merchant autonomy, city authority, taxation, tariffs, and the principle that all commerce conducted within Turmus remains subject to the laws and authority of the city.

Logged in early and spent the morning at Turmus Educational speaking with Cherry about the class schedule. I explained that I would be teaching Merchants and Commerce in the Gorean Novels in Olni at 2:00 PM, followed by presentations in Turmus on Thursday at 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM. Cherry said that daytime classes are difficult for her but that she would enjoy reading the class transcripts. When I asked what time would work best for her, she suggested 7:00 AM EST. That may be worth considering, even if it occasionally results in private tutoring rather than a full class.

Carola joined us for a time, and the morning included some light conversation before I returned to reviewing and preparing the Olni lesson. Later, Aries visited me in the Educational Hall. We discussed the upcoming class, the review and approval process for lessons, and the continued growth of Turmus. He mentioned that a fisherman had recently moved into the city and that a new girl might soon join the tavern.

Our conversation eventually turned to the future of the Silver Blades. I explained that Father intends to close the Fjord temporarily because the men are not expected to return until after Thanksgiving. Although this will save him money, it also places the Silver Blades more firmly in Olni, where they will retain their longhouse. This led to a broader discussion about residency, citizenship, and the possibility of serving Turmus as a Magistrate. I remain a resident of Olni rather than a citizen of either city, but I am tempted by the possibility of becoming a citizen and Magistrate in Turmus.

Aries also asked about the abandonment of a slave whose owner has been absent. He located a Turmus law stating that a slave is considered abandoned after more than 20 days without contact from the owner or placement in the care of a renter. I explained that the exact law should be checked carefully before any action is taken, since other cities commonly use a period of 21 days. Once legally abandoned, the slave would ordinarily pass into the custody of the city and could later be sold.

A thunderstorm passed through while we were speaking, and my nervous little Shih Tzu spent much of it trying to climb into my lap. She is slowly learning not to hide and cry during loud storms, so there has been some improvement.

At 2:00 PM, I presented Merchants and Commerce in the Gorean Novels in Olni. Approximately fifteen people attended the first class, with both Free Persons and slaves among the students. I was pleased by the turnout, although it remains to be seen how many will continue attending future sessions.

After class, I returned to the Turmus area and looked over several available houses and rental spaces, considering what it might be like to establish a more permanent home there. I later spoke with Father about the class, Olni, and the difficulty of finding a place that feels truly settled. He offered to help find a better building for my school at the Fjord. We also traveled briefly to Timba to look around before returning through Summer Sun and Nile River.

The day left me with much to consider: the future of my classes, whether Turmus may become a more permanent home, and where my duties as a teacher and Magistrate may eventually lead.

A Day of Visits, Merchants, and New Beginnings

Logged in very early and made my usual rounds through Summer Sun, Olni Var, and Nile River. While in Nile River, I spoke briefly with Laela, who asked whether I knew Magistrate Marcus. She explained that she had spoken with him in the park and wondered whether she might someday assist him with Scribe work if the city became busier. She then continued on to check her Master’s mail.

Later that morning, I visited Carola while she worked on arranging her new open-air merchant booth. We discussed possible locations for her price list while preserving the open appearance she wanted. Carola had chosen the location because it offered additional space, was close to the Merchant Hall and safe rooms, and would help keep the merchant pavilions occupied and visible. She hopes that other merchants will eventually join her there.

Carola also mentioned that Ramius’s companion had requested Teriotrope-scented soap, which she hopes to make if she can locate the proper scent. She noted that Turmus still needs an active merchant to operate a tea house and asked whether I knew anyone who might be interested. Unfortunately, most of the merchants I once knew have either left or settled in Telnus.

During the visit, Carola briefly believed that one of her bowls of spices had gone missing while her supplies were being moved. She prepared another dish, intending to have the paving stones swept in case the missing spices had spilled, but soon found everything and declared that her world was right again.

I returned later in the day and joined Carola in Shades of Turmus, where she showed me the home she was still decorating. We looked over the rooms, balcony, windows, and furnishings while she considered adding curtains. Afterwards, I traveled back through Nile River and Olni, checking the regions and making my usual rounds before settling in for the evening.

• Check with Carola about the completion of her merchant booth and price list.

The History of Lady Kati Evans

A Daughter of Rarn

Lady Kati Evans was born within the walls of Rarn, the daughter of its noble Ubar. Her earliest years were happy ones, spent among guards, servants, and the demanding lessons of the Blue Caste. Her mother, also of the Blue Caste, returned to dust while Kati was still very young. The loss remained a painful subject—one her father seldom permitted himself to discuss.

From childhood, Kati possessed an unusual curiosity and an instinctive desire to understand the people and events around her. She was quiet by nature, particularly in large gatherings, but her reserved manner concealed a keen mind and a remarkable ability to bring reason to heated situations.

One secret from those early years remains carefully guarded and unspoken, for some truths invite danger merely by being named.

War and Education

War eventually reached Rarn. Before Kati had attained her full height, her father sent her away to one of the finest academies in the land. Though the academy provided safety from the conflict, its rigorous lessons left little respite from scrolls, discipline, and study. Kati applied herself diligently, even as she deeply missed her father and the home she had left behind.

After completing her studies, she was sent to the scribes of Fina. Her brother, Kama, became her guardian in January 2010. Kama had been companioned and blessed with a daughter, but a raid took the lives of both his companion and child. Overcome with grief, he departed Fina.

Sometime later, a stranger arrived carrying Kama’s belongings and reported that he, too, had returned to dust.

The Beginning of a Judicial Career

Kati began her formal career as a Magistrate in Fina in January 2010. The High Magistrate recognized both her devotion to justice and her uncommon ability to de-escalate conflict. Even when tempers rose and swords were drawn, Kati could often guide those involved back toward reason.

She served as a Magistrate from January through March 2010 and was elevated to High Magistrate in April. During this period, she entered into a brief companionship with High Magistrate Kael. When he was believed lost during a brutal raid, Kati was left to carry the considerable burdens of the magistrate’s bench alone.

Her father eventually traveled to Fina after receiving news of Kama’s death and Kael’s disappearance. When the Ubar of Fina treated him with blatant disrespect, he ordered Kati to leave with him. They departed the city within the hour.

The Fall of Rarn

Kati returned to Rarn in September 2011 and was appointed High Magistrate by her father. Her duties there proceeded at a more measured pace than they had in Fina, but the peace did not endure.

Following a month-long battle, Rarn fell and was reduced to rubble. Few escaped with their lives. Kati was left without a Home Stone and with no certain knowledge of what had become of much of her family.

For approximately nine months, she wandered from place to place. She traveled with caravans when passage could be secured, accepted work where it was offered, and provided her legal and scribal skills to those who needed them.

In 2012, she returned briefly to Fina and again served as High Magistrate.

A Life Across Many Cities

Kati’s father’s business interests and the demands of her profession led her through many cities.

In March 2013, she served as a Magistrate in Turia. By June, she had moved to the Isle of Cos, where she again took up the magistrate’s bench.

During this period, she was adopted into the Beattie family. Her new father was a retired Scarlet Commander, former Ubar, seasoned captain, and prosperous merchant. He possessed two successful merchant houses and considerable wealth. In August 2013, Kati returned with the family to Turia and resumed her work as a Magistrate under the name Kati Beattie.

Her adopted father’s ventures required frequent travel. Wherever the family settled, Kati’s knowledge and experience were soon recognized. In January 2014, she became Chief Magistrate of Abydos. She served as Magistrate in Telnus in February and returned to Turia in March.

In April 2014, she was invited to become Magistrate of Aetos, but the proposed city never fully developed. The same occurred in Atria in May. In June 2014, she became High and Head Magistrate of Whitewater, her father’s settlement, remaining there until he eventually closed it.

The family moved again in February 2015, bringing Kati to Tyros as its Magistrate.

Magistrate and Teacher

In June 2015, Kati expanded her service to the realm by becoming a Teaching Scribe in Thentis. This marked the formal beginning of a teaching career devoted to preserving knowledge and making education accessible to others.

She served as High Magistrate of Rorus from July through October 2015. During this period, she obtained formal credentials bearing her adopted name. From August 2015 until February 2016, she also served as Magistrate of Agrhi.

In March 2016, Kati returned once again to Turia, where she served as Magistrate until August.

Her career had now developed into an unusually complete understanding of civic justice. She had argued and interpreted the law as an Advocate, maintained its records as a Clerk and Scribe, presided over it as a Magistrate and High Magistrate, and guided her caste through administrative leadership.

A Return to Fina

On February 21, 2019, Kati returned to Fina. She briefly served as Head of the Magistrates’ Caste from March 3 through March 9. However, increasing lawlessness and the troubling return of certain belongings made it impossible for her to remain. She departed on March 10.

Kati then traveled to Svago, a beautiful seaside city rising from a cliff face. There, to her astonishment, she encountered Kael, whom she had long believed dead.

She served Svago as Court Clerk and Advocate. As time passed, the feelings between Kati and Kael rekindled, and on May 15, 2019—approximately ten years after their first companionship—they became Free Companions once more.

Kati later bore twins: a daughter, Kyra, and a son, Kyran. A terrible illness overcame her, and the world faded into darkness. When she eventually recovered, Kael and the children were gone.

She searched for them for years, following every rumor and uncertain whisper. At last, she was confronted with the devastating report that Kael and the twins had been lost amid the chaos of battle.

Wandering Once More

The years that followed were marked by movement and uncertainty. Kati traveled extensively, rarely finding a place that felt permanent. She eventually relinquished the Beattie name because it carried little recognition in the northern lands, while the name Evans might still be remembered.

Despite hardship and loss, she never abandoned her commitment to justice or education. Wherever she went, the old pull toward the magistrate’s bench remained.

Telnus and Port Victoria

On March 20, 2025, Kati arrived in Telnus, where she became Magistrate and Head of Caste. When the city gradually faded away, she continued her travels.

She reached Port Victoria on May 30, 2025, and again took up the position of Magistrate. She also opened her home as a dormitory for free women, offering others a measure of the safety and belonging she had so often sought for herself.

Her time there ended after the Great Selnar Storm of July 7–10, 2025. The violent storm stranded her in Selnar for several days. When it finally passed, she discovered that her former residence in Port Victoria was gone.

Turmus and Selnar

Kati went to Turmus, where she served as a Scribe from July 12 through July 20, 2025. While walking among the houses, she unexpectedly encountered a former companion she had believed lost.

On July 22, Magistrate Abraham Jacobson accepted Kati as his ward and became her guardian. She assisted him with his magistrate duties, teaching, and writing.

What had begun as an unintended stay in Selnar became something more meaningful. Kati served there as a Legal Clerk from July 22 until August 24, 2025. For a time, the city offered her the welcome and stability of a true home.

Teletus

On August 24, 2025, Kati established herself on the Isle of Teletus. She joined the Ubara’s Council and served as Assistant Head of Caste, Magistrate, and Teacher.

This new chapter began beneath the shadow of a traumatic event. While still recovering from her injuries, Kati hired a guard for her protection. Nevertheless, she committed herself fully to the city and became the first person to formally swear allegiance to the Home Stone of Teletus.

For Kati, this was more than a ceremonial distinction. After losing cities, homes, and loved ones throughout her life, the oath represented a deliberate choice to belong and to participate actively in the growth and prosperity of a new home.

Her service in Teletus continued until December 1, 2025.

On November 29, 2025, Captain Wind of the Silver Blade Mercenaries adopted Kati in Fjord. Captain Wind and First Lieutenant Izzy became her declared family and protectors—the men who would answer if a serious issue ever arose.

Ar’s Station

On December 6, 2025, Kati relocated to the restored city of Ar’s Station. There, she served as Magistrate, Governor’s Scribe, and Teacher.

The position of Governor’s Scribe offered a welcome change from presiding at the magistrate’s bench. Yet every measure of legal knowledge and administrative experience she had acquired remained valuable. Her careful records, command of civic procedure, and understanding of law allowed her to support the Governor and the city with clarity and precision.

Kati also opened and operated the Station Academy. Teaching brought her great satisfaction, and she treasured the opportunity to guide others until the academy was moved and subsequently closed.

Her time at Ar’s Station ended on April 5, 2026.

Lara, Port Talis, and Olni

In April 2026, Kati became Chancellor of the College of Lara. She held that position until May 9.

She also served briefly as Magistrate of Port Talis beginning April 6, 2026. Her stay there was short-lived, ending on May 9 after the city banned her father.

Kati then turned her attention to Olni, where she found a renewed purpose as both Magistrate and Teacher. She also continued teaching in Turmus.

In Olni, she began developing and using THE CIRCLE, a new approach to education built upon her many years of experience. It reflects her belief that learning should encourage participation, curiosity, and respectful questioning.

Lady Kati Today

Lady Kati Evans is a distinguished civic leader, legal authority, administrator, and master educator whose career spans more than fifteen years. She possesses a complete understanding of the justice system—from presenting legal arguments as an Advocate to presiding over difficult cases as a High Magistrate.

Her quiet demeanor should never be mistaken for uncertainty. She is knowledgeable, articulate, observant, and capable of exercising authority without unnecessary force. She reads more slowly, is quiet in large groups, does not participate in rotation, and is unable to para. Patience and respectful communication allow her to participate at her best.

Her guiding principle as a teacher is simple:

“The only bad question is the one not asked. Ask me anything, respectfully.”

Lady Kati’s life has been shaped by noble birth, rigorous education, war, public service, bereavement, wandering, and repeated renewal. She has lost homes and Home Stones, endured the disappearance of family, survived illness and violence, and rebuilt her life more than once.

Through it all, the pursuit of justice has remained as natural to her as breathing.

Now serving as Magistrate and Teacher of Olni, Lady Kati continues to preserve knowledge, uphold civil order, and prepare others to take their own places within the realm. She carries the memory of every city she has served and every lesson she has learned, while looking toward whatever path the Priest Kings may next place before her.

Today was an incredibly long and emotionally draining day, full of mixed signals and frustrations. My morning started off pleasantly enough in Turmus, chatting with Carola over blackwine about the four major cornerstones of our society—the Home Stone, the Caste System, Priest-Kings, and Natural Order. She generously shared her notes on Pani Culture and the Monetary System, which I look forward to reading when things quiet down. I also tried to attend Skylar’s class in Lara, but the sim restarts meant no one showed up, which ironically made me feel a bit better about my own empty rooms lately.

The real struggle came later in the afternoon. After enduring eight grueling hours of meetings and teaching, the Olni city meeting left me feeling betrayed and humiliated. Instead of addressing the low attendance of my classes privately, I was chastised publicly. Then, my updated schedule was completely ignored, and the old one was posted instead. It feels like they simply aren’t listening to me. Furthermore, there was an incident with a free woman running through the streets wearing nothing but a veil. The handling of the situation and the magistrate duties felt completely mismanaged; I was told I was the only magistrate available to discipline her when there were actually three of us present. It brought back bad memories of how hard I worked and how poorly I was treated in Teletus.

On a domestic note, the loss of Layla is still upsetting. I finally managed to catch Nicholas Eel to discuss finding a replacement—someone who is a good worker, a good cook, and active during my usual hours. I finished the evening venting to Aries and Odette, which helped soothe my nerves, but I am glad this day is finally over.
